$2000 Blog Marketing Contest Recap & Announcements

by Melvin · Jun 19, 2010

Update: Super sorry for a 5 day delay in the drawing of this contest. Was super busy with work. All in all there were 10 entries so great odds for everyone. The winner through random.org is @danalingga. Contact me on how to claim your prize. 🙂

So the first two weeks of the MelvinBlog’s Marketing Tip Contest w/c does have $2000+ of prizes at stake has ended and today I’m going to make a recap of  the entries thus far. If you haven’t joined yet or it’s your first time to learn that I have a contest, make sure you join now.

The contest itself has received so much attention (and traffic) from the blogosphere but I’m quite surprised that less than five people have so far joined. As expected (like in any type of contest), most bloggers who say they will join NEVER really join (or haven’t yet). It’s expected considering the contest will still run up to July 15  and most of the entries will come as we approach that date.

However like I said, joining today is by far the best way. Remember each participant can write up to 5 entries and with that being said, I’m sure some of the contestants who started out early will have a decent advantage over those who will wait, before they write.

Anyways as for the recap, I’m really happy with the turnout. The entries that I’ve received so far are good entries and reading comments from their audience I know that it has become so beneficial them. As I stated initially that’s really my goal, to give good value to the blogosphere through this contest. And for the entries thus far, here they are. Be sure to check them out and give feedbacks if you like their articles.

  • Elie Palima wrote an entry about “his best blog marketing tip so far“
  • Dev from Technshare shared his “10 best marketing tips that will blow your mind“
  • Deepak from AgentDeepak did it with a twist by creating a series instead. So far he had written “comment marketing ” and “social marketing”  as the entries

As you can see, only three people have participated in the contest yet with a total of  4 entries. (If you had written your entry and wasn’t mentioned here, feel free to shoot me a PM). There’s really no risk in this contest so if you have the best marketing tip then just throw it in.

Like I said, it’s people’s mentality to wait for the last minute before entering but if you do yourself a favor and actually start right now, you’ll be getting much higher chance of winning. Remember we will only have 3 winners for this main contest with each winners receiving prizes not less than $200 worth of good products from good people.

Surprise “Side-in” contest

As I’ve said, we’re going to make this entire celebration more special by having in more “smaller contest”. In short, its contests within contest and for this post, I have made this really easy for you.

So for this mini contest, all you have to do is follow me on twitter and retweet this statement:

Reading MelvinBlog’s Best Blog Posts from his blog http://bit.ly/bestbloggingtips  RT @melvinblog

That’s it! At the end of 21st of June 2010, I’m going to randomly pick a winner which will get $10 paypal cash straight to his account.  Remember, you have to follow me first on twitter and then retweet the statement. You can do it just once or it depends to you. There will be only one winner and since this is not really the biggest blog in the universe, your odds of winning is really high! Easy eh?

That’s for now, see ya soon!

Blog Updates And Announcements

Blog Updates And Announcements

by Melvin · Oct 6, 2009

September was a pretty good month for me because that was the month that I didn’t have to wake up early and sleep early to prepare for stupid internships. I was able to take the much needed rest and relaxation while also being productive doing what I want and what I need. It was good also because I was able to raise enough money to support myself and my expenses without needing to annoy my parents asking for allowance.

Anyways for this version of blog updates here are some of the more notable happenings and changes to the blog.

  • Pagination Problems Resolved
  • No theme change up to the end of the year
  • WWSGD plugin removed
  • Guest Posting galores on some blogs
  • Loyal Commenters Awarded.

So first is the pagination thing. You can now look at the footer part and click the next page or paged number as its completely working well now. I have also decided not to change the blog’s theme up to the end of the year at least! You can remember me posting an article asking you on whether to change the theme or not and the final decision is not yet. Meanwhile the popular WWSGD plugin w/c analyzes cookies and sends out different message for different visitor has been removed. I really love the plugin but since it’s hurting my search rankings, I have decided to pull it off. Credits to Mihaela. I’ve also guest posted on some of the blogs and well most of my guest posts are still not up. Hmm. Lastly all the the people on the top commentator’s list were rewarded with free advertising for a month. These are bloggers who kept on reading and commenting on my posts despite the atrocity of it. 😀

Announcement

greatdeals

The major announcement that I am going to make is the  launch of Great Deals in the near future. Great Deals is eventually just a part of the site (a page actually) where you can see offers you’ve never really seen before. OIO Publisher for $27? How about the Ultimate Blogging Theme for just $47? Most offers are UNBELIEVABLE and those things mentioned are just preludes. Yeah, you’re not gonna believe it. 😀

And yes, suggestions, criticisms, opinions, advice is always entertained. If you have something to say which you think can really improve it would be highly ridiculed appreciated.

March Traffic, Earning Details & Announcements

by Melvin · Apr 20, 2009

So it’s been a long time since I have done this one here so I will be writing one now. The reasons why I don’t do the usual monthly recap are:  1) my blog isn’t really wrecking high revenue numbers, 2) I don’t have the time to do this. But now I have the time so I just thought I would put an effort to do a recap of what has happened the past month. So here it is without much further fluff:

Traffic & Growth Related Details
  • Alexa Rank – 144,726
  • Technorati – 55,363
  • Average Uniques – 220
  • Average Pageviews – 620
  • RSS – 150
  • Pagerank – 0

The blog stat-wise has actually declined from almost everything except feed subscribers. I’ve been working so hard on getting returning visitors by forum interaction and commenting around. The pageviews is more than 2 times of what the average unique visitor is. Maybe it’s because of some folks who keep refreshing the page because they are waiting for a new post, LOL> 🙂 As usual, Pagerank is still 0 as I just implemented the canonicalization thing last month and I am hoping that it would get something on the next update.

Blog Revenue Details
  • Text, Sponsored Links – $30
  • 125X125 Banner Sponsorship – $80
  • 468X60 – $50
  • Paid Reviews – $50

As usual the blog almost had a sold out advertising spot (despite me refusing to

blog-earnings

use OIO). The text links are so cheap ($5) that a lot of dudes on digitalpoint forum don’t even ask for stats. 🙂 The popular banners at the sidebar is sold out as well. The premium banner at the top has 2 rotations each up for $25 and fortunately it’s taken also (thanks to the reverse funnel guys, 😉 ). I got 2 paid reviews this month and I gave discount on that one. Yes, I give discounts! The economy is tough so I understand that a lot of marketers are skeptic to spend. As much as possible, I give them 10-50% on the first month so they could decide whether the exposure fits well. Don’t be a moron dude, don’t sell your ad spot for $40/month if your Alexa is over 500,000 and you just get 1-2 comments per post.

As this blog is relatively small, I don’t spend much expenses here more than just the hosting and the flip-flops I use while typing here. 🙂 Unfortunately I have 5-6 other websites that aren’t making any revenue as of now so the income is good to cover up other expenses from failed investments startup investments.

What’s up this April & May?

Well I have done a couple of guest posts on different types of blogs w/different types of audience. I conclude it’s doing good actually because it kept my traffic steady while my blog is in lull. I still have about 5 more guest posts to issue so just look around me on other blogs. Also, you may want to greet me. 🙂 April 21 is going to be my 18th birthday and I am planning to hold a small but very nice contest here in Melvin Blog wherein everyone can almost win! Watch out for that! Anyway if you would like to send me something, like a car or a yacht just use a contact form. But don’t worry I accept small gifts like shirts, usb drives, steaks or any tangibles. LOL, just joking. You’re presence is more than enough!

The Sunday Thing Everyone Is Doing

by Melvin · Oct 12, 2008

Love

So being busy for almost the whole week and coming weeks to come(search for the word busy in this blog, and you’ll find a ton), I have to do the link love that most people do. Btw, just want to say the comment rewards would be inactive at least for a short month as I was looking for a more eye-popping prizes. So Stay tuned! Also I was very happy to have sponsors for this blog that have booked long term!

For the best post that I have seen and bookmarked, here they are:

  • The Daily Blog Tips – Perfectionism is Bad for you
  • Shoemoney – Is College Worth for What we Do?
  • RajaieTalks – Why Do You Blog?
  • Linkers Blog – Is Your Design Link-Worthy?

The perfectionism thing is a great read. When I have read the title I was about to contracdict it and when I read the content I suddenly agreed with it. 😉 Shoemoney’s most commented post that week is an eye-opener. Just because guys like him who never finished college  became succesful, all of a sudden everyone wants to quit going to school and start making money online, which again I say is not for everyone. The Why do you blog question is popular these days and its interesting to see what are people’s take with it. Mr. Cooper talks about the importance of design. It’s so true that because everything has become a 2.0, design seems to be an important factor(very important) for getting viral.

For this coming week, I have a lot of unique ideas that can surely piss you out. 😉 I have prepared some posts that will break your neck make an emphasis on reality rather than what most people say. 🙂 So again stay tuned and make sure you are not subscribed to my feed
