5 Different Things that I have to Accomplish Everyday

5 Different Things that I have to Accomplish Everyday

by Melvin · Nov 22, 2010

If you’ve been reading the blog, you’ll easily see that I’ve been whining quite a lot about how I’m super busy and how hectic my schedule is. I mean if you go to each of my previous posts for the past few days and weeks you could easily notice that I always open the articles with the “I’m so busy lately” kind of line, lols.

Anyways sometime last year I wrote a post called “I wish there’s more than 24 hours in one day” and I got some interesting feedback about it. Now in this post I’d like to go a bit offtopic again by tackling the 5 different things that I always strive for before each day ends. The list starts now (in no particular order).

  1. My work tasks – Obviously I need to accomplish all my tasks for my day job for the particular day. I usually set out goals in every working day to make sure I’m being efficient and helpful to the company. For instance if my task is to find review sites, I usually set out a goal for myself (i.e. 100 review sites a day).
  2. Read all emails – I have a whole bunch of email accounts for different properties and to be honest I have been receiving a lot per day. In just my recent post I talked about my difficulties with responding to emails. But even with that I make sure that I read each and every emails on all my accounts before the day ends.
  3. Do all blog-related micro tasks – This includes moderating comments, spam comments, seeing if theres a new advertiser, retweet articles, manage my facebook blog fan page and so on. This usually happens at the latter part of the day.
  4. Post blog entries – If you know me, I usually write my posts for one week in one sitting, usually every mondays or saturdays. With that, I usually just set them as drafts and then the task becomes publishing those posts as the days go by. And making sure it’s error-free (although all of my posts have errors!)
  5. Do my responsibilities at home – I pretty much arrive late at night so my task upon arriving is to ensure everything in home/house is fine. Just the simple things like making sure everyone took their dinner, my little brother has made his homework, my mom is well-rested and the doors are locked and secure for the day.

Those are the 5 different things that I aim to accomplish and complete everyday. It’s a bit daunting but it has become a part of my daily routine that it’s normal now for me. How about you?

Melvin = Dead?

Melvin = Dead?

by Melvin · Oct 30, 2010

With just 3 posts for this month, with this one being 4th you’re probably wondering on where Melvin has been? Is he dead? Has a serious illness hampered him that he can no longer type using fingers? Is he on the court now battling some lawsuit cases against him? or what?

One of those may be correct but the real reason why Melvin hasn’t been active lately is because he’s busy…

Lols, of course it’s me talking here and I just thought it would be nice to talk in the third person at least for the introduction.ย  So yep the reason is that I’ve been busy with a lot of things lately. Here are those:

Personal Stuff

There’s been some personal issues that I have been battling lately. Some family issues as well as some illness to a family member that I cannot really disclose for a reason. Also I’ve been quite struggling with keeping my sane as far as being the interim head of the family is concern.

But I’m expecting that go away after October ends. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Work

I don’t want to stress it that much anymore as I’ve mentioned it already myriads of times. Since August my responsibility has increased and I was assigned to become a software tester while keeping my designation as an online marketing guy.

I don’t really consider it tough but if you combine everything, traveling, going home late, partying every fridays or saturdays, then its gotta take a toll on your body I guess.

Consulting & Client Work

Ok, a lot of you probably aren’t aware of this but sometime last year I did some consulting in SEO and online marketing in general. I got a couple of good clients who are willing to work with me to increase their search visibility and stuff like that.

It wasn’t really a core of my online business but I decided to open it up last month (even though I was hyper busy). Eventually I got this client who has nabbed my services for at least more than 2 months I’m estimating, and that has been considered as my other work aside from my job.

What’s next for MelvinBlog?

Am I selling it? Heck no, at least for the moment. Its funny because the traffic has still been consistent even though I haven’t posted here nor have done anything in the blogosphere. The advertising income is still somewhat somehow consistent thanks to the loyal sponsors.

As for the content, I have some really really good stuff that’s currently in draft so stay tuned for that. Also expect me to throw a bunch of guest posts out there. I’m looking on returning on the normal posting frequency here for the next month so stay tuned.

Lastly, if you want to keep in touch with me closer by following me on Twitter and/or on my Facebook Fan page. Till then folks!

Blog Updates & Some Ramblings

by Melvin · Jul 31, 2009

Answers to q & a would be on the next post. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s been pretty obvious that the internship has affected the way I manage all my online business, including this blog of course. If you would take a sneak at the Archives page you would see that the post count has dropped from the usual 12-13 posts per month to 5 posts per month (June & July). I have also put all my other online projects in hiatus to give way to the stressing internship. And to be honest, I actually haven’t figured out yet the right ‘time management’ for it.

Anyways back here in the blog, it seems that I have already fixed most of the flaws in the theme template. As you may notice, the pagination/paging of the blog located at the footer is now doing well. I would like to make mention of Mr.Bhavesh of CSSACE who responded to me professionally despite my fuming anger. ๐Ÿ˜‰ He supported me all throughout the process and it was really helpful to me. The only problem right now is that I lost the advertisers ads at the sidebar (2 banners, 3 text links) due to my carelessness. I am trying to look for those advertisers contact but just can’t seem to find it.

Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude to the Market Leverage family, specifically for Dina Riccobono. If you would remember, last January I won a contest sponsored by Market Leverage. The ML family sent me an Ipod w/c never reached me until now. Dina and I were negotiating about the possible substitute and last solution was the paypal payment (w/c has always been my last option). Like Bhavesh, Dina handled my emails very well (and in a very friendly manner). ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m not sure if other Affiliate companies would do the same in that situation. Thanks guys!

Personal Updates and Ramblings

by Melvin · May 30, 2009

Well many of you who followed me since I started would remember me emphasizing always that this blog is a personal blog, not a make money online or internet marketing blog. But like what most blog’s who share their experience w/internet marketing and in this niche alike, they usually morph to mmo blogs or blogs that people somehow read to learn some guides. Well I wouldn’t lie by saying this blog hasn’t gone from being a personal blog to an internet marketing/blogging one as my post in the archives would probably tell you how this blog really evolved from a ramblings blog to a blog that all of a sudden teaches something, oh well.

I really miss the aura of having a personal blog so here I’m going to list some personal updates from me and some ramblings:

  • I just gained 12 lbs since February though it didn’t really look evident.
  • I bought another walkman phone so to make it kinda a collection.
  • Got myself another reseller account strictly to host this blog and my friends blogs. ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Next week I’m going to go to the Internship so for the first time I am looking for quality guest posters. For those who are interested you can state your interest in the contact form.
  • Bought myself an album of Taylor Swift (I know it’s gay and it sucks)
  • Visited my relatives that I haven’t seen in quite a while.
  • Started a small offline business related to nuts!

What to look for, for the upcoming days:

  • My upcoming ebook w/c is titled ‘Monetizing Make Money Online Blogs’. I’m planning on selling it for a bargain!
  • Contest – am planning to hold another massive contest to give back to my readers.
  • change of blog’s theme? – what say you?
  • Newsletter – This one is far-fetched but I’ll try my best. ๐Ÿ™‚
  • Blogging Hiatus – w/c is again due to internship. If there is no interest on guest posting then I would probably just sell put my blog on hiatus.
  • And many more. ๐Ÿ˜€

How about you?

Link Lovin’ And Some Announcements

by Melvin · Apr 26, 2009

Hi guys, another great week here in Melvin Blog and it means its time for another Link Love (words borrowed from Net Fool ๐Ÿ™‚ ).

Before everything starts here. Let me remind everyone that there’s a small contest running here in MelvinBlog that would end at the end of this month. The contest has 12 great prizes up for grabs and there are 12 participants thus far. If the contest ends today, no doubt everyone is bound to win! Make sure to check it out.

So this week has been great as I can read a lot of blogs now because my summer vacation has started. A lot of great posts have been produced this week and here they are:

  • How to be a Successful Make Money Online Blogger – Shoemoney.com
  • 20 confessions being a blogger influences your life – Balkhis.com
  • 7 Secrets To Eyeball-Sucking Ad Banners – Carlocab.com
  • 5 Things More Important Than Blogging – StandoutBlogger.com
  • Monetizing An Email List From Your Blog – CarolineMiddlebrook.com

Shoemoney’s post discusses a very interesting topic which I think is a must read for all make money online blogger. Balkhis (or his wife?) puts up a nice post about how blogs and online presence could influence your life. My buddy Carl does a list of how a banner can totally suck someone’s eye. Tom from SOB writes a very realistic article about stuffs that are way more important than a blog and lastly Caroline gives her readers some tips on monetizing email lists.

Just Acquired AffiliateHat.com

Well in a seemingly fast pace of life, I just acquired an affiliate marketing blog. The former owner was a great friend of mine who happened to be real lazy in typing posts. Brim is a super affiliate and obviously who would want to exert more effort on something that would give lesser money? Just in case you don’t know, the blog is an affiliate marketing blog that focuses more on newbies trying to get off the ground and fly them to the outerspace. joking… Well I really like to domain name of it and now that I have it I am so excited. Because I was, I immediately replaced the generic ugly looking theme with the premium UBT theme and wrote the first post. I have also fetched some freelance writers to write for the blog since I couldn’t afford to write on two blogs with almost same topic. But anyway I would still love to have writers, so if you write about that certain topic you can mail me using my contact form with your rates and samples. If you feel it’s a nice blog, then feel free to subscribe to it. ๐Ÿ™‚

March Traffic, Earning Details & Announcements

by Melvin · Apr 20, 2009

So it’s been a long time since I have done this one here so I will be writing one now. The reasons why I don’t do the usual monthly recap are:ย  1) my blog isn’t really wrecking high revenue numbers, 2) I don’t have the time to do this. But now I have the time so I just thought I would put an effort to do a recap of what has happened the past month. So here it is without much further fluff:

Traffic & Growth Related Details
  • Alexa Rank – 144,726
  • Technorati – 55,363
  • Average Uniques – 220
  • Average Pageviews – 620
  • RSS – 150
  • Pagerank – 0

The blog stat-wise has actually declined from almost everything except feed subscribers. I’ve been working so hard on getting returning visitors by forum interaction and commenting around. The pageviews is more than 2 times of what the average unique visitor is. Maybe it’s because of some folks who keep refreshing the page because they are waiting for a new post, LOL> ๐Ÿ™‚ As usual, Pagerank is still 0 as I just implemented the canonicalization thing last month and I am hoping that it would get something on the next update.

Blog Revenue Details
  • Text, Sponsored Links – $30
  • 125X125 Banner Sponsorship – $80
  • 468X60 – $50
  • Paid Reviews – $50

As usual the blog almost had a sold out advertising spot (despite me refusing to

blog-earnings

use OIO). The text links are so cheap ($5) that a lot of dudes on digitalpoint forum don’t even ask for stats. ๐Ÿ™‚ The popular banners at the sidebar is sold out as well. The premium banner at the top has 2 rotations each up for $25 and fortunately it’s taken also (thanks to the reverse funnel guys, ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). I got 2 paid reviews this month and I gave discount on that one. Yes, I give discounts! The economy is tough so I understand that a lot of marketers are skeptic to spend. As much as possible, I give them 10-50% on the first month so they could decide whether the exposure fits well. Don’t be a moron dude, don’t sell your ad spot for $40/month if your Alexa is over 500,000 and you just get 1-2 comments per post.

As this blog is relatively small, I don’t spend much expenses here more than just the hosting and the flip-flops I use while typing here. ๐Ÿ™‚ Unfortunately I have 5-6 other websites that aren’t making any revenue as of now so the income is good to cover up other expenses from failed investments startup investments.

What’s up this April & May?

Well I have done a couple of guest posts on different types of blogs w/different types of audience. I conclude it’s doing good actually because it kept my traffic steady while my blog is in lull. I still have about 5 more guest posts to issue so just look around me on other blogs. Also, you may want to greet me. ๐Ÿ™‚ April 21 is going to be my 18th birthday and I am planning to hold a small but very nice contest here in Melvin Blog wherein everyone can almost win! Watch out for that! Anyway if you would like to send me something, like a car or a yacht just use a contact form. But don’t worry I accept small gifts like shirts, usb drives, steaks or any tangibles. LOL, just joking. You’re presence is more than enough!

No Updates for A While, Where Am I?

by Melvin · Apr 5, 2009

Some of you may be wondering why I havenโ€™t been posting lately and some dudes have hit me through my IM on whether I am busy with something or what. Well to tell you, I am not busy with other money making stuffs and other projects, in fact I was sick. Iโ€™ve been suffering from influenza for the past three days or so and Iโ€™ve been having terrible headaches every morning. I havenโ€™t been into doctor yet but now Iโ€™m feeling better.

Another reason is because I donโ€™t have an internet connection for the past 2 days as well and since Iโ€™m sick I cannot go anywhere. With almost 10 days of hiatus in this blog, you can see my Rss numbers dropped as well as the Alexa rank. Donโ€™t worry I wouldnโ€™t be out for long. Hopefully I could be able to get back to my old ways before the holy week starts and have this blog back in the crowd again.

Meanwhile, just stay tuned. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Buzz Marketing Expert Dean Hunt has a guest post here soon and I have a lot of great surprises for this month of April. How about you, what are you doinโ€™ lately?
