Year 2008 – Looking Back On Today

by Melvin · Dec 28, 2008

Around the blogosphere now I see a lot of people doing this, revisiting if they have accomplished their goals this year and do a list of goals for the next year. Actually I am really interested into reading this kind of stuffs and its nice to see how people actually fare with the current year. Anyway now I would want to share with you guys the year 2008 for me and how it has made impact on my life. Unlike most post, I wouldn’t want to talk much about the internet business and how I do some moolah online and so. Instead I like to share things that are far from that.

Ok, January up to March is a pretty fare and challenging month to me. Actually that is the third trimester for school and its just harder than what I thought. Initially we had subjects like Computer Systems Org which talks Assembly language which sucks. I also have like Object-Oriented Programming during that time. As I’ve said its hard, I barely passed those two subjects and kinda hang on as one of the students in our group that hasn’t fail any subjects since first year (or since kindergarten). Then here comes summer and oh boy its really hot during summer. This is where I struggled as the eldest brother in my family. Why? It’s because I care so much about things. I tend to have short patience with things and occassionally its hard to control myself with what I say. It’s been a struggle for me to be a nice image for my younger brothers w/o hurting them w/my sharp retorts. Oh well…

Then before the classes started I built this blog. Actually a day after purchasing the domain, getting a host and putting my first post, I was confined in a hospital for 4 days for being stressed too much, low blood, and dengue fever. Hospital sucks and everyone agrees I know. June then is the start of the class again and Im in the third year college. As always school is nice. I felt I was bright enough to get high grades and split time well with affiliate marketing, blogging and studies. Studying has always been fun and I know most students don’t say but they definitely have something on them that agrees with it. Funny jokes during lunch times, mocking people’s miseries and so on so fort. Seeing your crush, seeing ugly people, professors and poor security guards. Then of course the trimester ended before Christmas.

During November and December, I also kinda have the worst months on my online business in that year. What a time to come! Basically I felt I need to grow my business and we started out increasing our budgets with campaigns, started out hiring this one and that and pay hosting, domain and etc. That pretty mcuh hurted us financially (particularly me) as we lost over a thousand dollars. How? Its a long story and maybe I could talk about it for quite some time. I felt sad and thought Christmas would be sad for me because I’m poor (literally poor). But well god is great and I was still able to celebrate Christmas nicely. I was still able to buy gifts for my love ones and gifts for myself. Honestly as I write my ending thoughts about this last paragraph, I still couldn’t think of what I learned this year (seriously). Maybe its deep on me that I have to dig(g) it or have someone dig it for me so I could remember it. But well so far, I believe thats it. Im still young and these experiences make people grow.

Finally I Can Get Back W/Blogging

Finally I Can Get Back W/Blogging

by Melvin · Dec 12, 2008

It seems to be like years ago when I last posted here! I just had tough times right now with me being sick, exams coming in, and well my monitor exploded. πŸ˜‰

Anyway it seems that I have been recovering well from that pulmonary infection that has been bothering me since last week. Right now, I feel better and more better w/myself. Also I am up in to the last week of this trimester for my school and exams are coming in. The dreaded Application Project and System ANalaysis and Design defense has been over and thank God.

Also i have spent some moolah which was all planned for Christmas, for a new monitor (LCD) after the previous CRT announced its death. Anyway, before the CRT, I had another LCD which the adaptor exploded. I tried finding for the adaptor of that certain LCD but I just couldn’t. This is my third monitor in three years and oh how I hope it goes to last for lifetime. πŸ™‚ The best thing is I can continue watching southpark episodes right now.

Also I was very elated to finally have received my Copeac’s check accounting for $1127 which should’ve been sent way earlier. The check was in commission until September 30 and it only came two days ago. It’s nice to finally have it on my hand as I immediatelyΒ  deposited it into well, my mom’s bank account. I was too unfortunate not to have an own dollar account so I have to always go to the account’s settings and change the payee’s name to my mothers name. In that way, a check doesn’t really seem to be mine. πŸ™Β  Anyway I wasn’t able to take a pic of the real cheque because its already in the bank but I managed to take a picture of the depositors copy (which is the latter part of the check being cut out and thrown straight to the thrash can)

Top Commentators, Prizes and Incentives

by Melvin · Jul 31, 2008

So again I am stucked on a very busy weekend with all people making me look like a slave. Like what I have done last month I have given the top commentators some gifts back for commenting a lot. Last time it’s an ebook about incentive marketing. This time it will be entrecard credits and one will get a free advertising on this blog via a link. πŸ˜‰ If you do not, I just won a contest on Grademoney’s blog and I won 5000 entrecards from Bloggernoob who will also do a review on my blog.

Also I was able to finally receive the Atomic Blogging package worth $37 which I have won Carl Ocab’s Contest. The ebook is a great book and there are some items there that is well worthed. Another thing to say is that I will doing some incentive marketing here on my blog and on some forums. Incentive marketing is something that I have NEVER tried before so i think i’m gonna try to put up some efforts to it. This one is a great and busy week with some great post from all over the world. Check them out:

  • Jim pointed out how to embed image that can attract readers (Very great read)
  • Jason has put up a great and self improvement post on how you should make money online
  • Tom writes a great article on how to manage multiple blogs
  • Craig has compiled his list of his top blogs (look who’s there πŸ˜‰ )

Now who said its bad to give a lot of outgoing links? πŸ˜‰

Laying Out My Initial Plans

by Melvin · Jul 6, 2008

Most of the contestants for the blogging idol have already revealed what they are planning to do to gain rss subscribers on the first week. I have read most of it and I can say that they really have a nice plan to gain subscribers. Today I am going to share with you what are my initial plans that I have thought of. Of course writing good content, doing some forum promotions and others stuffs are obvious. My thoughts are a bit of out of box but I think is very very effective. So how do I start promoting this feed? Well I have started doing it offline. πŸ˜‰ But of course I also had some great plans for online promotion

  1. Begging – yeah I am going to admit this one is a little unorthodox. But so what? I did some statements that would surely touch the readers heart on some discussion sites. Of course I made sure the statements wouldn’t look exaggerating to them. So where did I do it? First is Smorty Forums. I have a pretty good image there as I have helped a lot of people earn (or at least what i think). Another is in the Blogcatalog discussion area. Obviously Blogcatalog is a high-trafficked site averaging about 50,000 page views per day. The problem there is that all members want to take the spotlight so if you had posted there, come back after 2 minutes and you’ll see that you’re thread is already in the second page.
  2. The family and friends – this one is so easy to understand. The great thing here is that the more friends you have the more chances that there are more who will subscribe to your feed. Filipinos are very close to each other and it’s not hard to see why they would do what you requested for.
  3. Using my University – As I have said before I am an officer of an organization in our university. And not that just I am an officer, I also have a huge influence all throughout the org. So the thing would be simple, you’ll ask everyone in the IT and CS department as well as the students to subscribe.
  4. Giving away free stuffs! – Here in Philippines, people hold a lot of bloggers party. And I have a lots of giveaway cards printed that has my feed address at the back asking to subscribe. Now what do I say about Filipino people?

Right now, as the contest goes on I am seeing how little, I mean very little, a bloggers chance are. But this does not stop me from getting motivated! This is a great challenge for me and on how can I improve things that I am not really an expert in. So far I only had a 20+ increase in my feed count but I am very optimistic. How about you? How motivated are you? Well, if you are, then you may like to subscribe to my feed. πŸ™‚

Catching Up With All The Stuffs

by Melvin · Jun 28, 2008

I really hate to post recaps but I have to. I feel drained because of all school works and all the stuffs surrounding me. Sometimes being healthy really helps a lot. And I can say I am not! wtf! So here are the things that happened and will happen in the next few days.

Pacquiao vs Diaz –> Not really a big fan of boxing but then it’s Manny Pacquaio! If you do not know Manny Pacquiao is the savior of the Philippines. Everytime this country faces crisis, he always back us up by giving us glory and winning his fights against everyone, yes everyone. It’s he who makes this country unite. Go for Glory Manny! Btw, I had a bet which costs $100 for it. Good luck to me!

I won in Carl Ocab’s Contest –> I wasn’t really serious and haven’t even think of winning a price. But Carl seemed to be very generous in this one. I think he didn’t follow his own criteria for winning and he just decided to make everyone that comments on his blog happy! Carl, I’m waiting for my price!

Monthly hosting paid –> I don’t seriously know why I have settled for monthly billing. Maybe because I would want to feel how is it to be like a parent who pays and budgets monthly.

Comment Form Fixed –> Again thanks for Alkorani. I’m lucky to have people commenting on my blog even with a white comment form. You’ll surely get something from me at the end of this month. Watch Out!

StandOutBlogger Logo –> Well SOB is one of the great blogs out there that I am really reading. It contains great tips for newbies/intermediate. I like your logo man!

Blogging idol –> Well I’ve joined this one. I have no idea how can I win in this contest and I know it’s very impossible. But then it can improve my marketing skills. I’m planning everything for this and as Daniel said, avoid Blackhats, so I would. Good luck to everyone who have joined it. Shoot me with tips to win it! πŸ˜‰
