by Melvin · Jan 26, 2009

So I would love to have an introduction about how I came up w/this idea too but I don’t think I have time and space here. PepperjamNetwork is an affiliate network that boasts the brand Next Generation Affiliate Marketing. Actually it was sent by Kris Jones, their CEO after I asked for it. 🙂

Thanks for this great shirt Kris!

MelvinBlog Dot Com’s 2009 Contest

by Melvin · Jan 23, 2009

So just want to apologize for not posting for quite some time as I was pretty much overwhelmed with this trimester’s schedule for college. For Mondays and Thursdays, I have to go to school 7 am up tp 7 pm and I usually come home 8 pm and I’m wasted then. I also am adjusting to it and now I find time so I might as well post this one now rather than later. 🙂

Now I am proud to announce The Melvin Blog’s 2009 Contest wherein their is over $700 at steak stake! Yes and its not just “$700” in some unrealistic sense of matter. It’s actually $700+ in real prizes from real marketer who really knows a lot about making money online. Actually some of the prizes there are priceless. I mean other sponsors just told me the quality of what they are sponsoring is enough rather than mentioning how much it actually worths.  So again here they are and they’re prizes:

  • Kris Jones, CEO of the PepperjamNetwork sponsored a copy of his Search Engine Optimization book and $50 deposited straight in your Pepperjam Account. Worth $70
  • Neil Patel of Quicksprout agreed to give one year free membership of Crazy Egg . Worth Over $100
  • Dean Hunt, the leading Buzz Marketing Expert , is giving away behind the scenes of all their reports and case studies worth $99.
  • Super Affiliate Zac Johnson sponsored three MoneyReign Shirt
  • Caroline Middlebrook is giving away a copy of Bloggers Bible worth $47
  • Carl Ocab gives three copies of the Ultimate Blogging Theme worth $67 each
  • Collin Lahay of Link Building Blog sponsored $25 cash paid via paypal
  • Gyutae Park of Winning The Web agreed to give a one month free of his Internet Marketing Membership released next month
  • Joe of the I’m With Joe sponsored a free Video Review of your site
  • Alvin Phang is giving away his atomic blogging theme for free.
  • Donny Gamble of Linkers Blog agrees to give away a free copy of his Blog Comment Blueprint
  • The Affiliate of Affiliatehat is giving away $100 paypal in cash
  • Splash Press Media gives away 12-month free subscription of Performancing pMetrics worth $60
  • Melvin of The Melvin Blog is giving away 1000 entrecard credits (i know its lame 🙁 )

Contest Mechanics

Basically it’s based (anew) on pointing system. The higher the points, the higher your chances would be. It will be drawn at the end of the contest which is February 21 2009. There would be 18 winners and winning a prize doesn’t mean you can’t win another so it speaks about volume and of course luck. I wanted to make this contest as transparent as possible but enjoyable as well. You couldn’t game this contest too so its kinda sad for gamers. 🙂 Interestingly I am giving everyone their choice for a prize. Let’s say a guy named Stephon Marbury ended up being drawn first so basically he has the choice for a prize. Why am I doing this? Simply because all of the prizes have almost equal value. Some may prefer paypal cash or maybe some just want shirts. So that’s why!

How to enter:

  • Comment in this post – 1 point
  • Subscribe to my RSS via email – this accounts 3 points. Only one email address per human
  • Follow me at twitter – equivalent to 2 points.
  • Add me to your blogroll – 3 points
  • Digg this post – 4 points
  • Blog about this contest – 5 points or 10 points. 5 points if you actually give this post a small mention in your post. I understand blogging for a contest is lame so you can just give it a mention. 10 points is for a full post with all the sponsors listed. Anyway I contacted some A+ bloggers and they suggested me to do a filter about this. So basically a blog has to have 20 or more subscribers to qualify for this one. This prevents assholes from creating a blog just to write a contest. Am I understood? 😉
  • Keep following this blog. – Apparently, I want it to be more enticing so there would be what I call secret entries. Basically there would be some posts in the future that would get you more points than those above so watch out! Why doing this? It’s because people just do all of those and leave and later unsubscribe and it sucks.

Final Words:

Basically I am open to some more suggestions. But I believe this is an exciting one to come. I still have a lot more surprises for you related to this contest in the future so keep reading. Again I also wanted to thank all the sponsors for giving something and maybe I can do a video post someday for you guys. What are you waiting for? It’s damn easy to win.

Chill!

How to Ask for Payout Bumps

by Melvin · Jan 17, 2009

Payout bump is simply an increase in a payout for a certain offer in an affiliate network. It’s usually a 5 to 10% increase, say for example I am promoting a certain ringtone offer that pays $15 per lead. Because I am generating huge traffic to that offer, I tell my affiliate manager to increase my $15 per lead and after some talk he then upped my payout to $16.5 per lead. A lot of affiliates are getting these bumps, super affiliates, medium and small affiliates. Of course when you’re just starting and you have never driven them a lead and you ask for higher payouts then chances are you’d be ignored. Since 95% of affiliates are “dead affiliates”, only few can manage to get these bumps.

Did I say few? Maybe I can restate myself. 🙂 Actually bumps are applicable to any type of offer, yes even email and zip submits. Most people are not even thinking of asking because they always think what they are making is small. That’s wrong! Actually, you don’t really need to produce a high number of sales/leads a day to increase your payout. Last year, there was an offer I was just making a small $5 proft a day and when I asked my manager to increase the payout, I was surprised that he just sealed the deal immediately. It’s really easy to have an increased payout and I’ll show you why:

  1. They expect you to do that – That is actually so true! Most merchants that have offers with affiliate networks are always hoping to fish a super affiliate. And even before someone asks for a bump, they already have prices in front of them in case someone asks for it. Remember the merchants nevertheless just want the exposure and they understand that in order to get more, they have to pay more.
  2. Saturated market – if you look on offers within an affiliate network what you would notice is that there is a lot of offers within the same niche. With that being said, these merchants understand that in order to stand out they have to make themselves look more lucrative to the affiliates. I mentioned earlier that there was a certain offer that I was just making a small profit yet I still manage to get a pay out bump. Why is that so?  It’s simply because that offer has a lot of similarities with other offers.  they understand they have to stand out. They know that if they would turn you down, you would go elsewhere and they don’t want that. The point here is that you’re giving them no option. Take it or leave it.
  3. Affiliate managers wants you to become super affiliate – this is very true.  Most people don’t really see the value of affiliate managers.  What these affiliate managers want is for us to become super affiliate because they know they would just benefit if we are benefiting from them. They give us the best tips, best offers because they want us to work harder and earn more.

So how do you ask for increase?  The thing is it really varies and it depends on how people do it.  But I think it’s interesting to let you know how I do it. Here’s is exactly the message I keep on using everytime I email my affiliate manager. 🙂

Hi, I think I’m driving nice traffic to this offer and I have been doing it consistently for almost 2 weeks now. Basically I want more profit and I would like to ask for  an increase in payout. Let me know what you think. Thanks

So you see, it’s really easy. Most people say it more unhumble, but again if you’re just small and medium affiliate, just remember to be super polite. You know what I mean. 🙂

MelvinBlog Dot Com’s “Hello 2009” Contest Preview

by Melvin · Jan 14, 2009

Hello everyone! Like what I said last time there will be a contest that’s going to happen here soon. So today I’m going to give you a preview of all the prizes that are up for grabs for the upcoming contest. But before everything let me just remind you subscribe to my feed so that you don’t miss out the contest that’s going to happen any time this week. 🙂

I would like to thank everyone who sponsored to the contest.  For those who are still interested in sponsoring a price, you can still reach me out through the contact form of this blog.  This is the first contest of the blog so basically you can give me your suggestions so we can make this contest more enjoyable. There would be some changes in the contest. Some of the affiliate companies have pulled off because of some reasons.  But they promised to sponsor something in my future contests so watch out. Due to the that, I think I will be holding another contest sometime in June and it depends on whether this  isgoing to be successful or not.  Now enough talk, without further ado here are the sponsors and the prizes they actually  sponsored (in no particular order):

  • Splash Press Media gives away 12-month free subscription of Performancing pMetrics worth $60
  • Melvin of The Melvin Blog is giving away 1000 entrecard credits (i know its lame 🙁 )

There you go, do the Math! Actually I think the prizes are for real. They aren’t just something “said” to be valued at $100. These are products/cash/memberships from established online marketers around the world. I’m so glad these guys/gals have actually responded to my mail and were very willing to sponsor. Again, if you’re sponsoring something worth sponsoring hit me a mail through my contact form. What kind of contest? I don’t know. 😉 Just stay tuned and be sure to subscribe to my ass.

Taking Advantage Of Startup Stuffs

by Melvin · Jan 11, 2009

Most marketers usually take advantage of stuffs that are startup or unpopular at first, and then make big profits out of it. And I know that well because I have done that a lot of times. In affiliate marketing or whatever, when there’s a new and untested offer that is up, I usually take advantage of it and even “abuse” it as possible. Now I know that its either it could make you quick cash or it can do you trouble but what I do mean by saying “abuse” is to pawn it as quickly as you can before it gets saturated. Marketers are all common for being quick so maybe a day or 2, an offer would all of a sudden be saturated.

So know you’re asking, how can I take advantage of an offer then? or how will I know what to take advantage? Unfortunately I don’t know the answer. 🙁 For me its more of an instinct and bit of luck at my side. Basically, most people spend their time in front of the computer so my advice is to just be productive with spending your time. I mean, do researches, take a look at the newest offer and etc. So know I am gonna share w/you some of my experiences  quickly making a buck w/a non saturated stuff (of course it becomes saturated then after some time)

  • Performancing Ads – Well its not really me but a good friend of mine who told me to let him anonymous. When Performancing Ads has just started, they are basically paying $10 per referral. That friend is actually a part of SplashPressMedia which happens to have connection w/performancing so he had the inside details and he pretty knew the $10 referral before everyone else did.  What happened then? At the end of one week he made $1300 of affiliate commission from Performancing. Pretty quick huh! Now its impossible to duplicate that because PerfAds has changed their affiliate program terms.
  • Clickbooth Select Campaign – Now I don’t know if I am gonna be hunted by doing it but what I know is I do it legitimately. So Clickbooth is an affiliate program that pays $10 per signup and 2% lifetime ref commission (I’m talking Clickbooth’s own affiliate program). Before the Wickedfire-Clickbooth dispute I was already promoting it like mad man. The result is $400 on one month just by promoting them. 🙂 After a year, my affiliate manager told me they have just removed it because some affiliates are abusing it. 😉
  • Dating Offers – Most of the offers I promote before are offers related to dating and more or less there is always a startup dating offer that usually accepts traffic from any part of the world. I just contacted my friends and asked to sign for this offer under my ref. Of course here in my country 85% are interested with dating sites so its another quick buck for me. It’s not really incentivizing but its just I gave them members I know are willing to stay. A month after I had a chat w/the merchant and they told me they have reduced the traffic to US only. And of course they’re too late because I already did my thing.

So those are the stuffs. Again it’s kinda risky because some are notorious for scrubbing leads and so on. But my advice is, if you do it legitimately and nothing against their terms then at the end of the day you’re still the winner

MoreNiche, Great Affiliate Company

by Melvin · Jan 9, 2009

Just earlier today I received a mail from the mailman that again mispronounces my surname. I was actually wondering what where did that mail came and why. I’m sure I don’t have upcoming affiliate checks and it’s impossible to receive mail from friends this time of the year. So well the first idea I had is maybe its the $135 Market Leverage gift card I won on Tyler’s contest. They’re quick huh!

But anyway I just opened it and was surprised with the content. Its actually a season greetings card from MoreNiche Affiliate Network. I understand it came late because they’ve sent it out December 20. I live here in Philippines so it really takes long before anything that is sent can be received here. Here is how it looks:

Although there’s no cash inside it, I am touched because I have stopped doing campaigns on offers on them for almost a year now. You might remember me having a check w/them before that almost expired due to the fact that I don’t have a bank dollar account during those times. Anyway back to them, MoreNiche is really one of the highest paying affiliate network there is. I remember the time I am making $200 w/them every 15 days with a certain poker/gambling offer. MoreNiche also loves their affiliate so much. As a matter of fact, new signup immediately gets $45 on their account and although $100 is the minimum payout, it certainly helps! They also have a forum, one of the best affiliate marketing forum I’ve seen where everyone is willing to help and share something. I don’t know now but before every forum member who gets 50 forum posts will get another $10. Their slogan “helping you make more money” really portrays their network.

Most of the offers are far from the IM niche. From weight loss offers to viagra to gambling and a whole lot more. If you’re good with those offers then its a sure thing you have to sign up w/them…

Do Comments Justify the Success Of a Blog?

by Melvin · Jan 7, 2009

Most people and friends who just have recently started a blog normally ask me “why is my blog not getting comments? I look at my Analytics and I see the traffic but no comments” I responded then “time will come and just be patient”. But then at the back of my mind there are a lot of things going on so I  decided I need to post my thoughts here.  Ok, getting in into the number of comments into blogs, most people, I think are so wrong into thinking that the number of comments to  blogs justify how successful a blog is. Although comments are for sure one of the things to look at when analyzing a blog, I think it only plays a very small percentage on it. I am now blogging for almost a year overall and about 7 months with a blog kinda related to internet marketing and make money online and I really have seen it all with this niche.

I used to have a basketball blog and it drives traffic like crazy before and it only receives 5-6 comments a day. Now I got this Melvin Blog that gets an average number of traffic and yet I almost always get 10+ comments per post. Does it mean its a successful blog? No way! How about blogs getting 20-50 comments per post? Not either!

Blog comments can pretty much be gamed and by saying gamed, I don’t really mean blackhat. Sure I have 150-250 good friends and only 5-6 of them knows I blog.  Only 3-4 of them read this blog. So you see, it really depends. Now if you have 200 close friends that are addicted to blogging as well, then chances are you’re going to get nice number of comments.

Most people reply to each and every comment in their blog, some comments always on a blog that comments on them and so. But the thing is that it really just plays a small role on determining a blog’s success. Don’t get me wrong, sure it’s nice to have people that always care to say something or people  that share their stand.

It also works well on the eyes of advertisers and so. Maybe we can also add the fact the maybe the blog’s content isn’t as great as others that’s why its not returning the expected number of comments. It’s all true but the main point is you cannot take a look at the other blogs who get 100 comments and say they are an established blog! You can’t say I’m a smaller blog because I get fewer comments.

I know you also know a lot of blogs that are getting thousand uniques a day and do not get much comments but certainly there are a number of factors to look with how commenting really works, why people comment on posts/blogs, and if it really makes a blog successful or just makes it look successful.
