There’s usually a trend not just in online space but in the business as a whole. And this is usually when a kid, or basically just a young person starts becoming successful (making tons of money is included in that of course). What happens most of the times, is that that young kid quits school and goes his own way. Does it sound surprising? No!
For the last couple of month, last couple of weeks specifically, I’ve been into probably the busiest, most exhausting days of my college life. I am a graduating student and I’ve never really like gave everything in school. Even if its exam or just any subject, I never had any day where I was not able to do what I really want. Of course until now.
Just a wrap up of what craziness happened the last few weeks, it includes the agonizing process of developing a software, then the super duper lengthy amount of paperworks that comes with it, then all the meeting and then the revision and then the defense. Do take note, that is just one subject. How about the others where we have a project, exams, stuffs, just craziness.
And it surprised me that I can’t even afford to login to the dashboard page of this blog. I can’t do a lot of the usual things I do in a day. Seems like all I can do is the school work (and tweeting of course)
Quitting School
Let’s go back to the main topic of this post. If you are into this niche, you could easily realize that most successful marketers/bloggers never really finished college. Instead they quit and stuffs.
To tell you honestly quitting school when you are making good money (or even just some money) is not a hard decision to make. I mean who cares about school anyway? I’m always like “hell Im going to school this month and I would then make lesser money as oppose to I’m not gonna go to school and I would triple my monthly income when I go to school”.
The only thing worth considering are the outside factors. The factors that doesn’t do anything with all the benefits that you get to enjoy when you quit school. Like for example is your parents. I don’t know about you but if I’m quitting school today (or even before) and say to them Im making enough money, then they’d still be upset. Why? Because of the degree that you’re going to miss out.
I know having a degree is probably one of the many overrated things here on earth but a lot of people just value that. Not having one is just like not having a future life.
Another good factor is your friends, your enjoyment and attachment with them. I would be the first one to say that I go to school mostly because I want to see my friends, have a talk with them and do our craps all together. And if I quit school right now, then I don’t think I would see them anymore for maybe the next few months (seriously!).
There are endless factors when it comes to this and it includes, financial stability, security, freedom, values and cultures that you are used to and etc. And its important to weigh them all down equally before making a decision. It wouldn’t also harm to seek out advice from people you trust.
Lastly, quitting school is ALMOST synonymous to having your own business, doing your own thing in future. Because of not having a degree, the chances of you, getting employed becomes smaller. Of course anyone out there could disagree and give me twenty-five reasons why its not the case but I’m pretty sure that it applies to majority, if not all. In short, you’re taking the risk and you’re less secure.
Am I Quitting School
Heck, no is the answer! As I’ve said, Im going to graduate one month from now and If I am about to quit then its the most stupid decisions I am going to make.Maybe if I have stumbled upon that thought 2 years ago, but now? Definitely not! π
School has taught a ton of nice values to me, enabled me to become who I am right now, helped me be with equally talented people, brought me experience I could never forget, hooked me up with pretty girls, got me with cool persons, party casinos, sports, drinking sprees and etc. Even if I was making $1 million 2 years ago, I probably would’ve still not quit, or maybe I would. π
quittimg school would be the dumbest option to go for….who would like to leave a place with so much fun around….i can say this because i am in a day job now that really sucks and missing my college and friends….i wish that if i get one more chance to go to college, it will be much awesome this time….
never ever quit school coz what they teach you can not be learnt anywhere

I have been thinking to quit my study but then I know, mechanical engineering is also part of my life. Something that I love besides business. Now I just left 1 year to finish my study. My advice is just follow the flow.

true and especially if you love what you’re taking up in school then there’s no reason to quit.
You actually made the right choice. It’s just only few days from now, and you will have your degree already. By the way, congratulations in advance for the great achievement in your life!

Thanks, I haven’t really achieved anything until I land that good job in IBM, lols.. π
I guess just quitting school without a long term plan would be stupid and throwing your self on hands of lady luck. Yes you still can quit if you have the zeal to take yourself to the levels you had decided. The environment will have a good impact when that is the case.

degree/college diploma is a plus. in our culture it’s actually more of a source of pride than a way to make a living-no enough jobs for the many degree holders and those who have jobs and a degree plan to quit within 12 months to be self employed-80pc in a totally unrelated field; like me π
Just found your blog. Nice posts. One should never quit school π

Let me share my experiences here. I guess, I have lived enough (in late 30s now) to strongly believe that without a degree one is almost as good as sh*t in any part of this world. I have seen several money making cycles in my life whereby people quit their jobs, discontinued school to run after the same. This included money chain scams, offline affiliate marketing such as amway, making money online, stock markets, you name the crap. And all those fools (I would say 99% of them) who ran after those instant money making thingies at the cost of education and a stable job have screwed up their lives big time and sulking now. There will be always the case of 1 (out of 10000 you should remember) college dropout who made it big with a startup idea or one scam or trend but most of them were unsuccessful.
Finally, I am glad that you are graduating – even more importantly that underlines the fact that you cared about a degree and making money online was probably secondary for you.
cheers,
Ajith

I appreciate your insight Ajith and Im with you, Im glad I never quit school. π
Thanks
Don’t be a quitter, rather finish the course playing along with the system and prove to them how you’ve learn’t more by yourself than from the course. Most courses are watered down so even an Average Joe can cope with it.
There is know way to quit the schooling if your are not the genius by born, blogging or any other business will definitely improve your living standard but and life scope. But what will you answer regarding the questions for your education and degree because that matters in this world.
agree with you bro…
Actually, even if I am currently earning a living through my blogs and I already got a degree, but I am still planning to go back in college for a writing related degree…. may be in journalism, mass-com, or simply the bachelor of arts in English….

I’m planning to do the same. I want to go back to college to study journalism or creative writing then I want a degree in MBA after.

I might also do the same, journalism or creative writing. Then, MBA afterwards.
I like to go to school but when you are too busy, the motivation to attend classes would just slide.

Glad to hear that you are finishing school, Melvin. I was a little shocked when I first read the title. Education is one of the most important things in life and will give you an edge in everything you do. You already posses Mad Skills and motivation, but your degree will give you much more and open more doors for you in the future.
Just a little more time left…… keep at it bro! π

I guess even though a blogger is so successful in making money online, he or she should not quit school. Education is the best treasure that no one can steal.

I would definitely not quit school just to make money. At the moment I’m juggling both pretty well at the same time. School, to me, is one of the basic things in life. You to there to learn more, though not everything you learnt will be used, you go there to make friends, friends who would be very helpful in the future.
Anyway, nice to hear that you are graduating π

I think everyone should have a “Plan B” just in case the internet business fails; you never know what might happen but it sure is nice to have something to fall back on.
I’m currently attending school and am almost finished. Hopefully, I’ll be successful online soon as well.

I guess I might have been too late to have read this post… or not!
Because I’ve already quit school, not just because I’m already earning a lot from my online business, but because of other business opportunities outside the internet marketing field. Another thing is, I want to prove that formal education is not a hindrance to succeeding in real life. Even my great mentors (including my father) were proud of me when I decided to quit school. I chose to chart my own destiny. π
After a year of quitting school, I can say that I’ve accomplished MORE than if I haven’t stopped schooling. I wouldn’t have organized 4 internet marketing workshops here in the Visayas and Mindanao and would have made so much network.
But I’m not saying or suggesting that you all quit school! It depends if you have the courage to replace SECURITY (school) with TRUE FREEDOM (charting your own destiny, or in my situation, quitting school). π
P.S.
By the way, after a year of accomplishing so much, online and offline, I “might” go back to school this semester and just take up business courses for FUN, not really for Formal education. hehe! π

Like the most people, i hate school, i’m feeling like in a prison when i go there, don’t have friends in my school so i don’t care about that.
I’m planning to build a business online but the next year, i will go to the university, my parents force me to go. Last year, i studied from home because i miss my degree (in high school), everybody in my family starts to phone to go to school instead of studying here but i didn’t listen to them and results: when i pass my exams, my resultsts was really munch better than when i was in school!
A book worth more than my professors xD.
Well, i wish my future business will work well so i can quit school.
School can be good to make friends but i don’t feel it at all and having a degree didn’t mean to have a work in the future. I know people who have a big degree and they can’t find a work…
Quitting school is not really cool. In my opinion you still need to finish school. It is still important. But this is not applicable to me anymore since I already graduated. But I think it would be good to quit my/your regular day time job and earn money more while doing less or working at lesser time.
I’m still a newbie to the world of internet marketing even to blogging. and i hope a few months from now i would also be in your position, earn tons of money online, have my own corporation and the likes.
Knowledge is important in life. You can acquire it from studying in school or from home. Because of financial problems, students sometimes stop their education and find jobs to help support their family, and then later, they continue their education. Sad to say, without education, some do not continue their study and build their own family. There are some provisions from governments that offer free technical skills and vocational schooling that takes only few months to 2 year courses. Check out these provisions, resume your studying, and continue on learning.
According to me make money online with internet marketing there are many risks. Some of them are a failed business strategy, wasted time and effort, lack of detailed marketing plan, not extensive or effective use of seo strategies, more costs than income earned. Most of all are the efforts worth the time and energy spent? Are you evaluating the risk of not achieving your business or make money goals.
