Monetizing Your Local Traffic

by Melvin · Jul 5, 2009

Just a quick post today, I need more rest. 🙁

It’s so easy to monetize a local traffic from a website or blog if your country is in US or Canada. But if you’re like me who’s country resides on an unpopular Asian country, squeezing out something from your local traffic can be hard. If you’re trying to use Adsense and you have a ton of say, Asian traffic then I would say that is not a good idea. There are really few Adwords advertisers who target traffic outside US. why? Because the money is really inside the US (and countries close to it), sounds unfair? No.

Well the short answer is by selling your own product. The thing about local traffic is that they are usually more loyal than international traffic. It can be an info product, consultation or whatever, just make sure you are well-reputed in your country first before implementing it. Luckily for me, US is my largest referrer of traffic, followed by Australia, some Asian countries and then Philippines. At the start of this year, I really worked hard on getting more loyal followers that are Filipinos and so far I am seeing the benefits of it. Back on monetization, the second next option is direct ad sales, although it can be real hard since most local advertisers are also advertising international products targeted at bigger countries.

Any other ways you can suggest?

I’m living in Singapore but most of my traffic come from US, like almost 3 to 5 times it come from Asia. But I heard from my brother who was an master in IT said that, if we use the US hosting like hostgator, usually is not strange if the traffic comes from the US site, but if we use hosting in Asia, you will had difficulty in ranking with the big guns, he also said, the best shot get a US hosting company !

bad blogger hit it right on the target. blogging from a little country could give you lots of followers or friends, however, monetizing your blog from adsense and affiliates or selling stuffs on your blog could be quite challenging.

    Great post!

I would say try to target the places that you least expect to give your website traffic..Post in forums from all nations. Find the right place in you will hit the jackpot

@bad blogger I don’t think hosting has anything to do with it. It should not matter who you host with

dude Nuffang demands me to put off other private ads, and make them the centerpiece. Of course I wouldn’t do that because private ad deals usually do me bigger cash.

Blogbank is new to me, so I would like to know more about that

I put nuffnang ads below the text comment box and its Ok with them.

You should try Blogbank (they pay quarterly though) Both is good for local monetization specially if you have tons of local impressons. 🙂

I have this issue with Blogengage! Many of my affiliate click don’t even count seeing I have a large diversification of cultures or countries if you will.

Monetizing that website has been really hard and still my profits are next to nothing.

CPC is our best bet! Google!

Hi Melvin I have the same problem. I’m from Venezuela and there aren’t so many advertisers either so I have to live without them. I use Affiliate links and I try to scratch some money elsewhere. But what else can I do?

I’m the owner of a local search start-up and the great idea is to use Twitter for traffic. Twitter could do well in local search. Although remember, if a local search has a large audience and have the capabilities already, they can make there own Twitter clone. It is not hard to clone Twitter. It is very easy to retain your audience and keep them happy. They can use the same Twitter capability on their own local search.
