Can Your Blog Survive 2009?

by Melvin · Dec 30, 2008

I know the title is a little funny for you guys and most of you will not even take it seriously. This is the first time my blog will face the month January , February, March, April and to be serious Im dead excited about it. It feels like I am going on to a fresh start. Im also thrilled because I have a plan already laid out for the blog in its first 6 months and I can assure you its gonna be exciting. There’s something in me that screams I should focus more on maintaining this blog more than anything else. 😉

Anyway back to the question. Actually its a question to a more broader bloggers/audience and not just for the readers of the blog. I know and I’m 80% sure of my top commentators and those who were following me since I started can survive. But then its like most just won’t. Yesterday I was reading my old posts and those people who commented on it. Some do not have the blog anymore but the domain is parked, some just stopped posting and seemed to have lost interest with it or maybe busy and unfortunately some have completely abandoned it. I can’t blame them (and you can’t) but its just like these things happen and sometimes its inevitable. There were times were I want to tell people that no matter how busy and crappy their life is they should still hold on to their blog. I’ve realized then its not fair to tell them that.

As some of you know, this blog is hosted on a monthly basis (via subscription) and while I am thrilled to experience paying monthly bills because its more challenging and hassle-unfree, maybe their’s a day where all of a sudden my paypal balance goes $0. You’ll never know. Right now, Im more inclined of receiving checks as a form of payment and in my country its not possible to transfer money from the bank to paypal. After all I realize that maybe I am in the same situation with most bloggers who were unsure about the future of their beloved blogs. But of course, thinking today, its goddamn impossible.. 😉

I see a lot of guys setting a goal for your blog and Im thrilled reading those things. But you see, things happen very quick! Maybe tomorrow my flip is gone, then next month my camera, then my computer! How about you, do you think you have everything it takes to maintain a blog for another year? Can your blog survive the year of the ox?

I know my blog will make it through 2009. I’ve written some goals and created a plan that will keep me busy and motivated to push through. The new year should be exciting and who knows what it will bring!

I agree! I have seen so many blogs come and go already just in the 7 months I’ve been blogging at StandOutBlogger. One thing I know is that when 2010 comes around I will still be here!

i started blogging december 2006 , from dec 2006 – dec 2007 my average blogging income is $1 per month.. LOLz.. but here comes 2008 and my blogging earning increase 3000x, that is from google adsense alone..

i hope 2009 will be better than 2008 for us..

    my game plan:
    – google adsense& other PPC model on the left side, affiliate marketing on the right side and 9-5 job in middle hehehe..

    Happy New Year Melvin..

What exactly do you outsource? Is it the content portion?

    @rowell,

yes, content portion for niche blog that i develop..
after i choose a niche to blog, buy a domain, setup wordpress blog, head to freelancer, elancer and hire writer for 20-30 articles. . once they finish writing i will schedule the blog post once every 2 days.

this is the strategy i use for building network of blog basically for adsense, kontera & chitika monetization.

now that i’m testing afflaite marketing, i think the same style would work.

Ah, that’s a pretty interesting way to blog. On average, what are the rates for writers?

you can get freelancer that will write 300 words article for you for just 0.50-0.80 🙂 you have to screen the applicant though for quality.

for high quality article the price range from $1 – $5 per 500 words article including research..

Hi, I use local web hosting service for my blogs. It’s easier to makes payment plus I save a lot of $$$ form paypal’s service charge & currency exchange. Btw, your blog is really nice.

It would’ve been a lot easier if my site had gotten the PR it deserved… Can you tell I’m frustrated? But anyway, 90% of blogs don’t make it past three months. So if you can survive for a year, you’ll half a huge advantage over 90% of your competition.

yes boy! Im pretty much sure my passion for blogging is burning and I am not financially hurting so Im in for another 10 years.. 🙂

PR is meaningless. Google should just stop displaying it alltogether and the web would be much better off.

I don’t pay for hosting ( or anything else for that matter ) on any of my blogs but I just started with them and already earning income on blogs that are barely 4 months old.

With that said I expect be blogging away in 2009 as I optimize content and establish good networks for traffic.

Side note: I made killing last year selling items on Craigslist and by fixing friends laptops, there are always other to generate income some are tax free lol……

2009 actually is going to be the best year for my blog. I jump started it last year so that it can empower its readers. Now, it’s simply waiting for more readers to be encouraged about becoming financially successful.
