Networking with people that I don’t know isn’t necessarily my cup of tea however I’d be lying if I tell you I don’t enjoy going to these blogging events. I meet some people that I know, talk to few that I don’t know but primarily I enjoy these events for what it is which is learning new things in the world of blogging and marketing.
While I still don’t have much time to spare writing blog posts here, I am somehow itching to become more active in the space again specifically through attending more events related to blogging and anything related to it.
The last blogging event that I attended was Bloggys where this blog was nominated in the Business & Finance category. Prior to that the last one was iBlog 7 where I was a speaker, then iBlog 6 the year after and then Wordcamp PH fro a couple of times which was a WordPress event. So those were like 5 years ago already with the exception of Bloggys which happened last year.
Are there enough of these events?
Now that I’m interested attending these events again, the first question that comes to mind is if there are enough of these in a year. Quite frankly I don’t know the answer as I haven’t attended that many of them even back then when I consider myself as an active blogger. I have to do some research to be honest and have found the following:
Philippine Blog Awards does not seem to be holding their events for quite some time now and Wordcamp PH does not exist anymore as it appears. That leaves us to 4 blogging events in a year which has me thinking if sooner or later it would even be less!
Now that’s not really shocking when that happens because the hype of blogging has been on a steep decline since 2013 or so. Most of the bloggers (myself included) that I know have not been active anymore and even big blogging brands such as Technorati have done a complete rebrand of themselves focusing on other areas.
That being said, the networking event doesn’t have to be strictly about blogging. It would still be in my best interest to go to general marketing and advertising events and conventions not just to learn more but also to meet new people and see if I improved my social skills at all. It’s funny how I carry a social media manager role yet I am somewhat antisocial (or as shy as I prefer to call it) when going to these events or just meeting new people in general
What’s Next?
I have to take my interest (my own interest!) with a grain of salt and see if it holds up as the year goes by. It’s funny how I’m ranting with the lack of local events yet I also lack time myself and cannot even guarantee that I’ll be able to go (easily) to these events.
But if you’re reading this blog post and know more local events (not just specific to blogging) then feel free to educate me more about them in the comments below.
