So looks like it’s time to say goodbye to year 2009. Whew, how quick time really flies! The time I first started this blog is still fresh in my mind and now Im close to 2 years with this blog.
Anyways since most people are still enjoying this holiday, I believe they won’t have any time to swallow marketing tips, blogging tips or whatever. So for today’s recipe I am putting out a list of the best and worst things that happen to me (not just blogging and business) for the year 2009 (in no chronological order):
Note: Bare in mind that some entries here can be irrelevant due to the fact Im typing drunk (not that much) and I still have that hangover, lols). Either way isn’t it sweet that even Im drunk I still have something for you. ๐
Best of this year
- Went in love (the usual teenage love affair)
- Won an Ipod from Market Leverage (w/c was converted to cash)
- Won a gift card from another ML Contest.
- Finished my 3rd year in college w/o any problems at all.
- Become a more responsible person (both family and community-wise)
- Sold old sites for a total amount of $1230
- Purchased a nice Presario Laptop
- Bought another walkman phone and then a smartphone
- Attended several good conferences
- Invited as a speaker in a local SEO Conference (I rejected it though)
- Gained weight during the summer (good because I am skinny)
- Leverage my online earnings and used it in offline business dealing with nuts.
- Had 2 extremely successful internship stints
- Finally did a redesign with this blog.
- Never had a month without an advertiser/sponsor
- Orlando made the NBA Finals
- Achieved my goal of being as frugal/thrifty as possible.
- Had a superb relationship this year with my parents.
- Made a lot of new good friends while still keeping in touch with old ones.
- Had myself interviewed thrice and getting mentioned a lot of times in the blogosphere.
- and many more.
Worst of the year
- Lost weight during the internship
- Got a cease and desist letter twice
- Got a legal letter from Yahoo! Search
- Lakers won the Championship
- Lost over $1000 in affiliate marketing
- Lost my skill in playing guitar and keyboards
- lost my skill in playing basketball
- Have never been involved in sports for the whole 2009
- Got banned for a month in Digital Point Forums
- Bought some stupid info products
- Never got my blog featured in a local newspaper here
- Let some of my good domains expire & get picked up by someone
- Still Pagerank 0 for MelvinBlog
- Has not launched 4 out of 5 of my big projects this year
And that’s it. The list goes randomly crazy and I really never thought I would share some of the stuffs there with you guys. ๐ย Either way, I would love to here yours too and you can do so in the comment form.

What did you do to get a letter from Yahoo?
Ha, I couldn’t agree with you more on “Bought some stupid info products.” Unfortunately, I did it all the time during this year, but am definitely planning on making one of my new year resolutions as NOT buying any more eBooks and actually digging hard into a single approach. Sometimes, you just need to cut off these outside resources and stop soaking in the diverse and quite often, too much, information which will only halt your progress.
Good luck to you in 2010!

2 Cease and desist letters? wtf?

It has something to do with their search marketing platform and fraud which I really don’t want to openly talk about in this blog.
The whole thing of just stopping on consuming is just tough. I mean, all the time I really believe almost all ebooks are junk, yet I sometimes still get persuaded to buy those in hopes that I could actually pick up something *new* in there.
lols. the one is totally outside of the internet marketing niche and has happened in forum while the other one is here locally (heck i didn’t know c &d exists here in Philippines)
I have also lost the touch in most sports which I could play properly. And also wasted few dollars in stupid stuffs.
Few good things happened too.

Sounds like you had a good mix of both good and bad for 2009. I really encourage you to spend some time on your interests (basketball and music), because I bet when you are 30 or 40, you will look back and regret losing those talents.

It’s alright if you don’t want to discuss it.
Would be interested in the whole story of it. ๐

The best thing “when orlando magic made the nba final”
worst “when LA won the championship”
that made me laugh lols. looks lyk you’re one of the LA/Kobe haters out der?
yea my relatives do say the same. I really hope I could find some time for those things next year.
Thanks!
yes and no. I really don’t hate the Lakers, I just don’t want them to win that NBA Title.
Sounds like you did a lot this year! I’ve also had problems with letting things slip, like playing the piano etc. and wasting too much money on info products! But I’ve learnt so much, and 2010 is going to be a great year ๐

Hi Melvin,
Well 2009 for me is very good and the most shocking part is…after 5 months of blogging I earned 3 PR’s.
Woohoo!

Not sure why you haven’t increased in PR – I checked that you are indexed in both Google and Yahoo!, and you seem to have quite a few back-links as well as a tonne of content. My site is less than 1 month old and Google gave my homepage a 2 and my blog a 1.
Do you have any idea why you have not increased in PR?

Greetings…
Good achievements, mine in this year is just the increment of my blog PR from N/A to 4 ๐
Nice and honest Melvin, was a good read, I enjoyed this post a lot.

Congratulations on your successes in 2009. It would probably help you a lot to get active in sport again in 2010. Being physically active and getting regular exercise is very important for our well-being. Some of the points in your “worst” list could be turned into exciting opportunities for 2010. Good luck with everything.
