Bloggers can either be amiable or despicable, no doubt about it. In my 2+ years in blogging I can say I have seen all types of bloggers. While most of them are really nice and great to be with, there are certain portion of bloggers (or qualities of them) that really make me pissed off. What is it? read on…
For some reasons, some bloggers piss me by commenting on posts while not reading it. Ok, we all know that most ‘guru’ bloggers would suggest you to comment on as many blogs as you can for two things, 1). to get traction and traffic and 2). for backlink purposes. I don’t oppose that. What I do oppose is the fact that a lot of bloggers overdo that and the result is that they actually don’t really read the content of the post and their comment is totally unrelated. That is what pisses me off.
I know that ‘maybe’ I, myself have somehow done that but I think I have never ever commented on a post w/o understanding (worst, reading) it. Most of the times I skim the content but then i always grasp the concept first before actually putting my piece into it. If you’re a serious reader of my blog then probably you might have found some totally douchebag unrelated comments. Much more if you’re an avid reader of famous blogs in the industry like johnchow.com, shoemoney and etc. A lot of comments there are just junk comments (different from spam ones), ones that were created for the sake of futility. 🙂 It even pisses me more to learn that those comments are actually legit and not trolls, just totally unrelated…
Oh well, just my opinion about it. Again its your own blog and there is a whole lot of freedom of expression within the blogosphere. Just make sure you don’t hurt yourself and the image of your blog by being a douche. Remember, the real value of comments in blogs is not about the quantity or the proper use of anchor text, it’s the quality and image that can make your blog standout.
Ya… I admit I do that before, but it seems it doesn’t really work for getting more traffic, as for now, I always read every word before I even puts a word of comment to it, getting to stand out from other comment, is not to write long but to really write a comment that relates to the content.

Sometimes I did just like you mentioned above. Usually I read the whole article and sometimes I read twice if the article is really good.

I think there’s a sort of justification. I have an RSS Reader full of blog updates that I want to go through everyday. Obviiously, if I read every full post, it would take me more than 3 hours just to finish the whole thing.
I do skim the content, to think about it, majority really doesn’t read an article from start to finish, word for word.

Good one, Melvin. And yeah, probably I’ll delete those spam-alike comments.

When people do this at my blog I delete their comment! I’m a do follow and if a bloggers wants me to link back they better read my article. If not they better hope they get lucky or they will be spam forever!
I hate bloggers that do that!
When I seen the title i was like hmm this should be interesting form Melvin!
The thing I hate is when a blog has long winded articles let it end already!
@badblogger! Bad at you!
You da man Melvin 🙂

Yes, this totally annoys me as well. Still, for me, even more annoying than people leaving unrelated comments or comments that don’t make sense with the point you’re trying to make on your blog are people who simply write something along the lines of “great post” or “very interesting point.” I tend to get a lot of those on my own blog and often delete them. In my opinion, if you aren’t going to add something intelligent and of value to my blog, don’t comment in the first place.

I agree with you. I hate those lame “great post looking forward to reading more” type of comments.
To me it’s like having something really profound to say to a group of people and none of them really listen and then just say good point when you’ve put forward a proposal to end world famine!
It’s just RUDE.
If you can’t be bothered to listen / read then don’t leave a comment – if the comment doesn’t add to the discussion I usually delete it too.

I have to admit I commented without reading a post once or twice. As for my blogs, I do not approve those comments that are totally unrelated to the posts
Junk mails pisses me too. I wonder if a commentator has time to comment at least he can scan/overview the post for few seconds.
I seen many junk comments. Let me give an example. Someone on my Contest Post commented, “The post was helpful/useful” . Now how can this comment be approved. Either the fellow was totally out of mind or cannot read English. The title say Contest so how can you comment useful article.

It doesn’t really piss me off as long as the commenter did say something relevant about the article to contribute to the conversation. What pisses me off are short-phrased thoughtless comments like “Interesting post”.

We have all done that.
I do my best to comment and leave something constructive to the author. I have started to delete comments on my blog that are a few words and do not make sense at all.
You will always get those comments on a site as they would like to increase their reputation and backlinks. Some of it works and others not.

I stop getting mad over things like this. I just delete the comment if its totally unrelated to the post or to a comment.

As long as their comment is not offending anyone I’m not “pissed off”. Depending on how many comments I get each day I will sometimes allow them and sometimes just delete them.

I think it’s rude to comment on something in your blog post if they didn’t at least skim through the blog post.
They should at least read through the blog post.

I have to be totally honest with you- pisses me off too at times. But if it is even a bit relevant to the post I accept it as they have taken out time to write it.

I do not approve those comments that are totally unrelated to the posts. I usually read the post and then comment. But some time I am sorry for that.
Yes Deneil That the right task with that comment.
I always read the whole blog, if it doesnt interest me enough after a few sentences then I just jump off to another blog. I don’t see why someone would just leave a comment without reading anyways, i mean you can basically tell wether someone read it or not, looks bad on you when you do that. nice post.

unrelated comments might be autogenerated spam comments which you are going to encounter many times.
if the comment is indeed from a real blogger / person, there must be a reason why he say it.

Reading a post word per word is never really a requirement. What I don’t want is that sometimes people just try to comment w/a generic type of comment (diffrent from ‘nice post’ thing). The thing is no one really reads a post fully, but I assume most do understand the concept just by skimming
Hey dude thanks. 🙂 I dont really see the value of dofollowing comments. =p
so it easily means you are not being fair. 😀
I don’t really see anything wrong with ‘nice post’ or ‘great stuffs here’ type of posts. I don’t loathe them, its just that it doesn’t add any value at all.
dude, I’ve been really trying to fix it since January but just couldn’t seem to find the right solution. The easiest sol is a change of theme (w/c is very unlikely at this point.)
Thanks for commenting on my blog Melvin, your post is really very usefull.

I understand exactly what you mean, as am sure others have. I have noticed a few people doing exactly the same on my blog, but I still welcome their response even if they did not read or understand the entry. I find that each exchange is worth something in it’s own way, and that’s a droplet of each person.

Sadly the majority of posts aren’t even worth reading. But then again if they aren’t worth reading they aren’t worth commenting on.
I think that people who post comments just for promotion purposes are more likely to post them on trashy posts because they don’t really care what the post is about. I only post comments on articles that I really like, so I have always read the article as well.
Hope this counts as an on topic, non junk comment. 😉

having to go through unrelated comments myself, I empathise with you as well as the newbies who are as lost as i was once.
Chill! As we should be with them.
This was a good “vent” post and a topic that I can relate to. I constantly have to deal with ridiculous and unrelated posts on my blog, and it seems like some people can’t even take the time to read the title.
Hi Melvin, good post.I get these “nice blog thanks for sharing” comments as well sometimes.New bloggers are looking for back links to their sites so they will make the mistake of not reading the post before commenting. Also, if the content is bad, you often get useless comments.
