(This is a guest post from Buzz Marketer, speaker and entrepreneur Dean Hunt)
When I think of all the pointless crap I was taught in school, it seems such
a waste.
The REAL life skills are not taught in schools, simply because the vast
majority of people (including teachers) don’t know about them.
So here are the 5 things I wish I had been taught in school.
1. The 80/20 rule is a lifesaver.
This is a lesson I learned the hard way…
The rule states that 80% of your value in work and life will come from 20%
of your actions and activities.
This means that a lot of what you think is important…. Isn’t
By using the 80/20 rule you can spend more time and energy on the stuff that
you love… hobbies, sports, dating, making money etc…
2. You have to GIVE Value before you can Receive it.
Most people get this the wrong way around. You see, to get money, love
,kindness etc… you must give it first, and then you will receive it.
The more you give, the more you will get.
3. Make SxxT Happen!
Most people are reactive people, this means that they wait for stuff to
happen before taking action.
If you want to save time, get more done and be respected more, then you
should work on becoming a PRO-active person.
So take control, no matter what, you are the boss.
4. Mistakes are Good
I only learned this rule when I moved to a foreign country and tried to
learn a new language.
One day, after a large meal, instead of saying that my stomach was full, I
said that I was pregnant.
The whole table laughed, and I felt like I was going to die of shame.
But guess what?
I never made that mistake again.
If you fail enough times, you will be successful. So try and look forward to
your failures, it just means you are one step closer to success.
5. 90%+ of What You Fear Doesn’t Exist
Not only will the vast majority of the things you fear and worry about never
happen, but if they did happen, they would be nowhere near as bad as you
imagine.
Look back to when you were a child, what did you fear? Now look at how many
of those things actually happened or mattered.
Summary
Schools are designed to teach us how to pass exams, in the big wide world,
they serve only as rough, out of date guidelines.
You now have 5 tips that I learned the hard way… and I have had all 5
verified from hugely successful entrepreneurs.
Life is a game, there is no ebook we can read for guaranteed success, there
is no second chance, so let’s live it to the full.
All the best.

Good post, Hunt.
The tips are more like being Agressive and Maverick kind of. And i’m a big believer of that.
Always Play the Game : If you are working in a corparate or even a small company, you always have to play those dirty politics and games to save your job in this cut-throat competitive world.
PaX’s last blog post..The Jigsaw Puzzle
I like the number 2.
In my younger years, I haven’t been giving some love to others and when I was blogging last year I wasn’t commenting on other blogs, this has proven me wrong because I wasn’t able to have a successful blog from blogging for a year. I have found out the I have to give in order to receive.
Paulubiadas’s last blog post..Amazon changes it’s terms
Thanks for good reading, I agree with every word you said
Dean those are some amazing things which schools cannot teach. You learn it from successful person or by experience.
Really nice post. #5 was the nicest point. I never thought about it.
LOL, thats why I really loathed school! schooling is a major douche for me although i always understood everyone is compulsary to go through that period

didn’t really agree much with the 80/20 rule but I guess this is really how the way happens… 🙁
I got to agree with “life is game” and im in it to win it. 🙂
KushMoney’s last blog post..Tell Me About Your Country
First time heard the 80/20 rule in 1976 from Joe Sugarman at the DM Associations annual dinner. He received that year’s BEST DMer.( DM is Direct Mail)He was the best then, and I don’t think there are better ones today either.
Great article and Rules! Thanks, Pt
Points 2 and 3 stand out well there, frankly each one does but those more so for me at the moment.
I’m really enjoying the Max Traffic Program, I recommend anyone to take up the gold nugget information being offered there!

Interesting guest post. And yes, mistakes are good because they are the best lessons we can learn.

I learn a lot from the school but i never learned blogging from my days in school.
The schools will only teach us the foundation but we need to find the resources from other sources to build our home over that foundation

Louver’s last blog post..The Melvin Blog
(You have to GIVE Value before you can Receive it.)
I like it Melvin 😀 . Absolutely true . Actually i learned that lesson too late , but the good part’s that I’m implementing it .
I agree with all the things that you have mentioned above. But, the point in which i believe firmly is that you have to be a GIVER first and then expect anything in return. Rather, I would put it this way, that always do good deeds without expecting anything in return. You will always get better things in return.
The pregnant incident that you have mentioned was just hilarious!!! 🙂
That’s actually the mentality I started to develop when my blog started to become popular. Anyhow I realize its not good…
I agree so much.. That’s a pretty good inspirational line there selboy. 🙂
nope, its just moderated because thats the first time you commented here.. 🙂
Actually hundrds of things are not learnt in school but later are so important for our living. School is teaching us only about one ideal world, but real life is so different.
Pretty good tips there. And all of them are true.
You will definitely learn from mistakes you have done.
Remember, experience is the best teacher.

Agreed.
I wish there were many things my teachers taught me besides telling me to open my book and work out the same problems we’d been doing for years.
I wanted real life knowledge, something I could take away and begin implementing that day instead of the allure of using it “down the line”.
I did have one teacher that taught us about finances which put me on a good path, I owe a lot to her.
