Some Link Love And Some Announcements

by Melvin · Feb 2, 2009

Ok if you have been following this blog, you will notice I have not been doing much of the mainstream link-love. One reason is that I just don’t like doing it. But one thing I’ve learned about doing link love is that its just helpful for readers as well. In my own experience reading  link love posts, it’s helpful for me in a sense that it actually lets me discover new blogs with great content. Basically you really don’t know all helpful blogs and you’ll also never know a post that probably can struck you the most so reading those kinds of posts helps me find great content sites that I don’t actually know or haven’t read yet.

For my version of the best posts of the week from the blogosphere:

  • How to Create Information Products that Sell Like Hotcakes – Gyutae from WTW wrote a great post not just about creating info products but also why creating info prods. Personally I hate the “ebook” thing and it kinda sucks for me but after reading the post, it made sense to me.
  • Why new bloggers shouldn’t post everyday – Khena from MMblog basically put up a nice post which I can say a must-read for newbies. New Blogger should not post everyday and I think its a big misconception for most people that if you’re new, you must put up content day after day.
  • Intense Debate: RSS vs. Email – Mr.Gambling Gamble wrote a nice debate post whether an RSS or email subscriber is more important. It highlights both the pros and cons and its interesting too how his readers fared with it.
  • Affiliate Marketing With No Startup Cost – theaffiliate (or whoever he is) puts up a walkthrough article on how to do affiliate marketing with literally no startup capital except for the popcorns you are going to eat. I actually hate to do things he highlighted but again when you don’t have the money, you have to pay with your effort and time.

Those are the top posts of the week. So for the top commentators last month, I had a surprise for you. 😉 Actually its not a surprise. Before I really give incentives to top commentators but I guess it requires a lot from me so I decided to give it a break. The guys here will get a free text link on this site for one month which ideally costs $5. (shoot me a private message) Here they are:

Blogosphere Update

The January month was a great month for the blog growing with over 6000 uniques and over 20000 pageviews. The feed count also got a spike. In case you just missed reading this blog for the whole month of January, I would like to say that there is an ongoing contest happening here with over $700 in real prizes. There are considerable entries but hey there would be 18 winners and you might not want to see an agressive guy getting it all, right?

Chilly chill chill!

MelvinBlog Dot Com’s “Hello 2009” Contest Preview

by Melvin · Jan 14, 2009

Hello everyone! Like what I said last time there will be a contest that’s going to happen here soon. So today I’m going to give you a preview of all the prizes that are up for grabs for the upcoming contest. But before everything let me just remind you subscribe to my feed so that you don’t miss out the contest that’s going to happen any time this week. 🙂

I would like to thank everyone who sponsored to the contest.  For those who are still interested in sponsoring a price, you can still reach me out through the contact form of this blog.  This is the first contest of the blog so basically you can give me your suggestions so we can make this contest more enjoyable. There would be some changes in the contest. Some of the affiliate companies have pulled off because of some reasons.  But they promised to sponsor something in my future contests so watch out. Due to the that, I think I will be holding another contest sometime in June and it depends on whether this  isgoing to be successful or not.  Now enough talk, without further ado here are the sponsors and the prizes they actually  sponsored (in no particular order):

  • Kris Jones, CEO of the PepperjamNetwork sponsored a copy of his Search Engine Optimization book and $50 deposited straight in your Pepperjam Account. Worth $70
  • Neil Patel of Quicksprout agreed to give one year free membership of Crazy Egg . Worth Over $100
  • Dean Hunt, the leading Buzz Marketing Expert , is giving away behind the scenes of all their reports and case studies worth $99.
  • Super Affiliate Zac Johnson sponsored three MoneyReign Shirt
  • Caroline Middlebrook is giving away a copy of Bloggers Bible worth $47
  • Carl Ocab gives three copies of the Ultimate Blogging Theme worth $67 each
  • Collin Lahay of Link Building Blog sponsored $25 cash paid via paypal
  • Gyutae Park of Winning The Web agreed to give a one month free of his Internet Marketing Membership released next month

  • Alvin Phang is giving away his atomic blogging theme for free.

  • The Affiliate of Affiliatehat is giving away $100 paypal in cash
  • Splash Press Media gives away 12-month free subscription of Performancing pMetrics worth $60
  • Melvin of The Melvin Blog is giving away 1000 entrecard credits (i know its lame 🙁 )

There you go, do the Math! Actually I think the prizes are for real. They aren’t just something “said” to be valued at $100. These are products/cash/memberships from established online marketers around the world. I’m so glad these guys/gals have actually responded to my mail and were very willing to sponsor. Again, if you’re sponsoring something worth sponsoring hit me a mail through my contact form. What kind of contest? I don’t know. 😉 Just stay tuned and be sure to subscribe to my ass.

Upcoming Contest And Some Announcements

by Melvin · Jan 4, 2009

edit: My contact form is not functioning well, henceforth send an email to melvin@melvinblog.com if youre intrested in sponsoring

Hello everyone and hope you just had a nice holiday altogether.

Last week I mentioned that I have a pretty nice plan for my blog for its first full year at helm. So today I’m letting you know that there will be  contest brewing up here soon. And by saying contest, I just don’t mean “contest” like most people would say “oh another fuck up contest” or “just another contest”. I am really preparing well for this contest which happened to be very first contest of the Melvin Blog. In contest, what I really had in mind is you, readers more than any traction that I can get for this one. I wanted to give you the best you can for reading and still making this blog a profitable special one. So here I am really working so hard to make this contest an unforgettable one to everyone!

So did I just say this is a special contest? What makes it special in the first place? Although I don’t want to disclose as much details here, maybe giving you a sneak peak wouldn’t hurt right? 😉 Basically some premium sponsors for this contest are affiliate networks like Pepperjam Network and Copeac giving away hardcore prizes. And who’s sitting on the backseat side of the premium sponsors? Oh I am very elated to say Dean Hunt, Caroline Middlebrook and Zac Johnson have all shown interest with sponsoring this contest. Now what are they sponsoring? That’s the secret you have to watch for! 🙂 So if you don’t want to miss this one maybe you should now subscribe to my feed.

Enter your email address:

Delivered by FeedBurner

Just as I said I wanted this contest to be special I am still looking for more sponsors so we could definitely add up the prize pool and make it more fun. You could use the contact form to give me your offers. With regards to sponsoring prizes, I would definitely love to see something more creative rather than just the usual ad spots for some months, or a text link or such stuffs like that. Maybe a cup of coffee or a book? It’s all up to you guys.

The Melvin Blog Incentives

So another announcement is that the newest portion of the blog is now alive and its what I call the incentives part of Melvin Blog. Basically the site is like “get paid to” type of site but more direct in approach. The site pays people to complete offers and basically some offers have cash pots wherein participants can win bigger cash for participating. Unfortunately, the launch of it went flat and only one has eventually completed an offer and of course ended up winning the cash pot of $5. Obviously it’s a loss but eventually there’s a room for so much improvement. I would also like to hear some suggestions to you on how I could possibly improve it. 😉

Blogger Head To Head Round 4; It’s The Kids, This Time

by Melvin · Nov 19, 2008

Not really I am a big fan of long titles but well the part 4 of the blogger head to head has already come. This time the kids teenagers will take the centerstage. Not only they are young kids, but they are young and competitive boys out there who are not afraid with jumping into the online world. Rajaie is a guy from Rajaietalks which I believe has taken his blog into the next level w/his killer posts as well as hardcore tactics to increase his backlinks and gain readers as well. Ganesh on the flipside, from Blogsmartly is as impressive. He’s been busy w/school now but his presence is always felt with his comments and useful insights.

Anyway enough with the praises from me and let’s jump to their interesting tack on things.

Rajaie Ganesh
Describe yourself in less than 5 words? Humble, Friendly, Adventurous, and Outgoing studious kid with a taste for
books and computers.
What is your favorite breakfast? Some eggs, bacon, sausages,

and waffles. On normal days I like to have some

Idly and Sambar (its the common breakfast
in South India)
Why did you choose a saturated niche? At the time I started blogging, I didn’t have the slightest clue of what a
niche was! Hehe, but I could say that I chose this niche because I enjoy
blogging about it
There were so many blogs giving
blogging tips. But most of them wrote and re-wrote the same old content. I
wanted to start a blog that gave *smart* tips on how to blog. I wanted to
write content which would really be useful to the readers.
Any story behind choosing that domain name? To be honest, I actually forgot why I chose www.rajaietalks.com for my blog.
I guess it had something to do with me just talking about anything I had in
mind.
I wanted a domain that
instantly made it clear to the visitor that this wasn’t just any ordinary
blog. 😉
How many uniques are you getting monthly? It varies between every month. In September, I got over 60,000 uniques, but
last month I got about 6,000+.
Around 500.
How many hours do you spend with it? I actually spend hours and hours a day online, but less than 2 hours
blogging. I’ve been trying to focus on my blog mostly these past few weeks,
but I always seem to be distracted by other things online.
When I first started
blogging, I used to spend long hours. Now, I usually spend 2-3 hours
everyday blogging.
Do you read other blogs feeds? How many do you track? Of course! 🙂 About fifteen or so, I try to keep it to a minimum so I don’t
spend too much time reading other blogs instead of doing actual work.
I don’t use the feed
reader. I prefer receiving updates via email. I subscribe to around 10-15
blogs.
How do you split your time with school and blogging and being a son? Ahhh, this is a hard one. I try my best to finish my studies and homework
before surfing the Internet. But no matter how hard I try to finish early,
it just seems as though there is never enough time on my hands!
Ah!
That’s a bit difficult. Since school and studies take up almost 12 hours
daily, I usually spend 3 hours in the evenings and 1 hour in the morning for
my blogs. As for my other activities like playing sports, games, reading,
etc. I do them on weekends.
Any other ventures aside from blogging? No, not the moment. But once I can figure out a schedule that will help me
maintain my blog and keep up with life, I am planning on jumping into
affiliate marketing, site flipping, and whatever else I seem to find
interesting
I’m currently exploring microblogging
sites like twitter and plurk. I’m planning on building sites that aren’t as
time-consuming as blogging.
What makes your blog unique from others? It’s written by me I really put a lot of work and
planning into my posts, so I guess I write unique (and perhaps enjoyable)
posts. And there’s also the fact that I’m 14 which creates some buzz around
the blogosphere.
What’s the biggest goal for this blog? To become one of the top “make money online” blogs that actually teaches its
readers how to make money online
I want to build up a large
subscriber base and provide useful and top-notch content for all of my
readers. That’s my biggest goal.
Give me a blog you admire and why? Copyblogger. I simply love it because of the awesome style of writing Brian
and the other authors have
ProBlogger. Because Darren gives some
of the best tips on blogging and his blog shows that it is possible to make
a living out of blogging. His blog was a big inspiration for me to start
Blog Smartly.

I Used To Have Three Mice For My PC

I Used To Have Three Mice For My PC

by Melvin · Nov 4, 2008

So I did have three mouses mice for my desktop computer. You might be wondering why, the answer is its because some of them are not functioning on some days and some of them does. It’s weird because I do believe that all of them are of a great quality, one is an old school mouse (I love old school mouse), the other one is laser and the last one is wireless. All of them are installed on startup and the wireless one seems to be the highest priority among all.

Anyway, I have won a lot of contest again for the last month. Some were affiliate marketing challenges and some other were just basically the mainstream contests wherein you’ll just need to subscribe via feed and maybe comment on some posts. Although, its not really that of a big value of money I still do appreciate it a lot. I’m slowly realizing there’s life in contests. 🙂 Also I was deeply in debt right now or not really. The Pay Per Click Campaigns we’ve had in the last month were not converting well. There was a stretch wherein we were losing $150 a day I think for 6 straight days. Of course its not just solely because of Pay Per Click, it’s a mixture of everything. Just have to call it quits this month and take time to think more and also ponder on how to spend the money more wisely.

I also have the list of the last months top commentator and well I will email them for their junk surprise prizes/incentives for commenting to my blog. Again finally I have transfered my Basketball Nonsense blog from blogspot to wordpress. It wasn’t 100 successful because comments were not imported mainly because early this year I have changed the commenting system to Intense Debate which wordpress doesn’t support for the mean time. It’s a tough decision because that blog is memorable to me. It’s how I started with blogging and I think blogspot played a vital role in it in guiding me from being stupid to being an intermediate user right now. But then blogspot I think is getting pissed now on how I overly customize my blog so I need more room to it.

And lastly the NBA season has begun and oh well, look Allen Iverson is now traded to Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups! Interesting season to watch, wht do you think?
