I think DoshDosh is more of blog brand than a personal brand. But you are correct, real name and photo is not needed to build a trust brand. It’ll most likely help, but not a requirement, as there are plenty of success stories that have been built around pen name, instead of real name. Trust brand – yes. Personal brand – almost.

Personal branding, using photo and such doesn’t necessarily mean that one should brand the blog as well, with cool logo and such. But when it comes to Twitter or Facebook, photo is the way to go… But speaking of watermelons, I do have kinda big head. Darn, I knew I should’ve thought harder about my blog URL

Thanks Ruth. It can be really scary putting out your real name out there and you are right about different niche sites and that having your name on all of them is probably a bad idea, at least from personal branding point of view.

Totally agree! I find that using a unique photo on all social media sites and comment on blogs might build our brands. Changing it regularly may cause a risk!

This is a great post. Haven’t read a good text about branding in quite a while. Although, in my opinion it’s much better to brand your blog with a kind of a vector character or something catchy that people will laugh when they see.
For example a drawing of a Watermelon and making your site “Blogging Watermelon”. I would personally much rather use that technique than brand the blog to my name. That of course does not mean I wouldn’t put my photo on the blog and something about myself.
My current blog is branded as an extension of my main website which is named Knowledge Reactor. I decided to brand the website with a vector brain icon to symbolize the place where knowledge is generated thus it being a Knowledge Reactor
