Really Want To Make Money? – Find Your Strengths!

Posted on November 30, 2009 by Melvin

I remember when I was just getting started with my making money ventures I was like “I want to try this, want to try that and whatever”. My mentality was like I want to try everything so that when something fails, there’s still a good chance some of the methods I tried would work. Imagine if I would try 20 different money-making tactics, maybe at least 1 or 2 would succeed. Did I do the right thing? NO!

The Problem Noobs Encounter

When some new guy is entering the industry, you could easily expect that guy to be full of energy and enthusiasm. Or maybe inspiration for some people. Like my case, they jump into everything head first and has that aggressive mentality and “hail Mary please work” mindset. But it isn’t wrong right? The answer is YES and NO.

I’ve written a lot here in the blog about how people should TAKE ACTION and I know other million dozen bloggers say the same. It’s true, you won’t succeed reading for 10 years before acting. But the same can be also said to being too aggressive. I had this cousin who really wanted to jump into affiliate marketing and because she’s really wealthy, she dived into it without having any basic startup knowledge. The result was she lost a ton of money.

You know me, I really love to test, love to take advantage of “unheard” stuffs and just always think outside the box. But do bare in mind that I can already afford to fail given my experience with internet marketing. If you’re a noob, has no money and has that unnerving mindset then LISTEN. I know it’s cool to look real brave, its good for the ego for people to see you as a courageous newbie business person. But don’t be an idiot. Work your way up first before acting like you’ve done it already.

Finding Your Strengths

Just because you heard arbitrage is cool, doesn’t mean you have to go into it. I hear a lot of people saying “I heard this thing makes big money, I heard I could become a millionaire with this and that”. That’s exactly the no.1 recipe for failure.

If you really want to start making money, then start analyzing your strengths. Start planning the directions you’re going to take. Narrow down your huge options and think. I understand everyone wants to be that “entrepreneur”, a CEO-like business person who is at the top, foreseeing whats happening, getting the biggest money but you have to understand it’s not gonna happen. Successful freelancers remain as freelancers, graphic artists could never become programmers and bloggers as CEO is far-fetched.

What do you think? Do you think you’re playing the game using your strengths or playing it with others strength? Let me know by using the contact form below..

I remember when I first entered, I was full of ambition and aspirations. I read every MMO blog that you could mention, from big guns like John Chow & Shoemoney right through to ones that nobody ever visited apart from me.

Sometimes that ambition and drive can die but I only have to look at my Paypal account and see what I have acheived and it soon comes back to me.

Strengths should be focused on and so should weakness, you should keep a tab on both.

I get your point, but sometimes it takes a lot time to figure out what our strengths really are. So all these make-money-opportunities are really just a training ground for testing, and finding these real strengths. I think that if we want to grow constantly, we just have to try all these new different things.

For example. Even if you’re a brilliant SEO specialist, you still might find out that you’re even better with PPC.

But of course, if we want to try something new, we should be serious about it and give our best.

True. But do take note as well that a lot of people already know where they should be. I mean a certain person is a superb designer yet wants to have an SEO business. Its totally fine with me but I think leveraging first what you are good into is the key, especially if you’re just getting started.

Good post. The first part of finding your strength is passion. If you’re not passionate about the topic, the blog is dead before the first post is even up.

      Great post.

I agree with you that you will need to find out your own strengths. If it means you are good at writing, then offer services like writing at forums. Try to stick to 1 thing and focus on it, instead of focusing on 20 different things as you’ll only get confused.

I completly understand that newbies get overwhelmed and all and will want to try everything and focus on multiple things at a time, because I was also like this. But if you want to succeed stick to one thing, complete it and then move on to the next thing.

Just because Making Money Online is a topic that everyone goes ballistic about when they see it and just have to click on the link to learn how to get that free extra buck using various shortcuts – doesn’t mean YOU should write about it.
You need to find something where you have experience because that is what “sells”. Experience leads to credibility, credibility to subscribers and there you have a successful blog. So find what you love and write about it!

It’s good to do some research before anything. See what goes and what doesn’t. Open up some free blogs at Blogger.com or WordPress.com and write about different subjects. See how you feel about it in a month or two.
Another fun thing is finding someone similar to you or who likes the same things and opening up a blog together. I tried that once and it was really fun.

It takes years to find our strengths, unfortunately it takes lifetimes to master our strengths and once we can do that, we have unlimited powers. But I’m still searching for my strength.

This is invaluable advice. I was thinking the other day about if I had approached working online with what I want to do and not what other said I should try…. I really would be far ahead right now…. Although I am happy where I am now.

Totally agree with this. But unfortunately it’s so hard to listen to this good advice – most of us learn the hard way. In fact, the hard way even causes lots of people to quit and assume it doesn’t work! Thankfully I’ve got to the point now when I know to hold off a new system, and just carry on doing what I’m doing. I can tell you it’s the most important thing to learn! Otherwise you get so distracted you achieve nothing.

I agree. The hardest part usually, is the starting curve of learning where we usually get butchered by so many mistakes and get discouraged and stuffs.

Well those who don’t quit after learning things the hard way are the successful ones.

      Sell.

I’m not being facetious. I think you have to sell something of value now that blogging is saturated with millions trying to make a buck.

      All IMHO of course.

When it comes to making money online everyone gets crazy and in a hurry to jump into the water unprepared. Since most are enticed and blinded with the “get-rich-quick scheme” of money making online opportunities, many tried it without having the know-how and eventually caught on the hype of it all and fall prey to genius copywriters.

Though it’s true there are profitable opportunities online, first we should really identify that “get-rich-quick scheme” of money making online opportunities are mostly online scams.

You should always be cautious when something is so inviting promising to make you a millionaire…even when offline.

We should be realistic, making money online is harder than offline. We should know what online business suits us first before venturing it.

      Thanks for this great post.

Well said! I actually recently figured this out for myself. I started out going the MLM route. It works to a degree, but it’s not something I’m strong with or something I want to do for a long time. So I turned to my true passion of writing and haven’t looked back since. It makes a huge difference when you concentrate on your passions and strengths.

I think part of the problem is that most ‘noobs’ fall for the line that millions can be made marketing on the internet. Don’t get me wrong, you can make a lot of money, but not over night!

Just because the internet has introduced a new business medium does not mean that you no longer need a solid business model, good old fashioned hard work and commitment!

A lot of people are confused and are taken advantaged of when it comes to making money online. One good start is to find a legitimate site or trusted source that will help you start off your online business. Find a mentor and get free trainings.
