Contemplating On A Template Change

  • Sharebar

Everytime I ask for a review on forums or wherever, people always retort that my blog looks refreshing. That it looks very calm and tranquil, the color schemes are soothing. The truth is I always thought this is the perfect theme for my blog. Not only that not a lot of people uses it, but its also that I think it suits my personality the most. That’s why I managed to keep it this long even though I always voiced out that its in fact flawed.

But just like everything, changes always happen. Early this week I was looking for a suitable theme that would take over to the former one. A theme change is something that is always refreshing and thats why I always ask  people what’s the better theme to place in. Well I wouldn’t make this long as I would show you how the new theme would look like and I would compare it to the old one. Share your insights and be honest: (click the pic for bigger res)

Old and Current Theme:

old

And the new one I’m planning to implement:

new

Of course, there is a ton of customization still at hand in case I would apply the new theme. I’m also trying to see if some of the custom things I have on the old one can  be imported on the new  theme with no hassle.  What do you think?

I think it looks to dull for me. To neutral, but thats me. Its cool though, but doesn’t that header tag with the background that looks like its on top of the other background thing over played?

I actually really like your current theme here… you want to keep with your color scheme, which has been green and light blue, in order to get that eye-glance recognition.

I like this new theme better Melvs. My only apprehension is its color. Could it be customized to have a lighter more engaging color? Coz I think on my end, a brown, earth color for a blog especially covering almost the whole theme is quite lazy to the eye.

      Just my opinion Bro :D

I am excited to see the new look of your blog :D

actually there is already a pool of tweaks and customizations waiting just in case the new template gets implemented. But anyway I would still follow what most of my audience would rule out. :)

      Need Your Opinion Guys……

      Hey everyone,

My blog has been using the premium theme for quite a while but now I am thinking of changing it. Please share your piece if the “soon-to-be” new theme just looks fine. Here are the sc……

I like the new theme, the grungy design looks very nice

I think for the type of blogger you are (energy filled) you should stick to the more bright colours, conveys more ‘oompf’ factor.

In fact, the current one is better than the proposed one… You need to only do a little bit tweaking on the font size, banner ad spacing etc. Just my opinion.

Well. I love the current theme. This is very good because of its simplicity.

Don’t go for the new one.

I think you should not change your blog theme again and again.I was same like you and lost many blog readers in 2008. Luckily my someone suggested me Thesis Wp Theme,Now I am stuck with Thesis with self customization and getting the best response.

Dude your current blog theme rocks. That new one is a little dull. No need for change.

If you want to do some changes, you can tweak your current theme a little. May be a new menu bar with little effects.

      I love the “grungy” feeling.

The colors are neutral though. So if you’re going for a “stunning” look, you might want to add some bang.

I’d also suggest you emphasize the post titles more rather than the dates because the dates are the one popping out there.

A lighter background color for the content area would be great too.

your current blog is very good and nice.do you have this theme for blogger?

      Melvin Reply:

Uhm, unfortunately I don’t have one for blogger..

    • Annemieke 11:24 AM 31/8/2009

Although I like the second one more, I am not sure if that one is better suitable for this blog. Maybe the colourscheme of your current theme is better for your blog. More fresh and active so to speak.

But that should not prevent you from just trying out another one. Much to my surprise it is really very easy to change a theme, so why would you not do so. And if you don’t like it, you can always change back.

I prefer your current design rather than the new one! At least I really don’t like the colors of the other theme… but if you made some colors changes on it, I could prefer the new one…

Not that there was anything wrong with the old/ current theme, but I absolutely LOVE the new one. It’s great to change your elements every so often. As long as you stay true to your blog’s brand, a design refresh can help even more.

    • Chris Peterson 06:36 AM 01/9/2009

From looks of what you seem to have planned, I think your current color is also calming if that’s your goal you have succeeded. But it lacks variation & the dynamics it can create. You must take this suggestion into consideration before finalizing it.

In my opinion, the current theme is much better comparing to the new one — what concerns me is the color. I don’t see the new theme fits in with money-making at all; it’s more to art, or probably graphic tutorial type of blogs. Or perhaps you can go for more options if you can’t decide? Something more alive or maybe try an eye-catching header instead?

      Best wishes.

IMO it looks really nice, but then I personally have a soft spot for grungey themes :P

Also, you might want to consider thesis… it’s a great theme that’s easy to customise. Therefore, if along the line you decide you want to make some changes, you don’t need to play with all the code. :)
