Losing Interest On Monetizing This Blog

Posted on July 02, 2009 by Melvin

So today marks the last day for about 4 ad placements in this blog and obviously they wouldn’t want to renew anymore. Many people who buy the book I created about monetizing make money online blogs usually ask me how I manage to make that amount of money with this blog. The truth is I do have *other* make money online blogs that have lesser readership, yet makes more money than this one. As always, I do believe this blog is more of a personal blog rather than a niche site so I monetize it depending on my mood. Btw back to those other blogs, I believe I have purchased them a couple of years back (some are last year), and had a great deal with a superb freelancer w/c happened to be also a great friend of mine. To keep it short, I do basically outsource everything as much as I can.

Back to this blog, when I started this I always dreamed of like kinda making $1000 with it someday. But as time goes on I did realize that blogging is more fun when you use it spontaneously rather than pressuring yourself trying to maximize its potential. Luckily, letting the flow go natural still made this blog earn three figures a month. Honestly I really I don’t care that much (unlike before) if this blog earns or what or not. I’m just more elated to have a couple hundred of readers reading this blog everyday, happy to have people commenting, glad spammers keep on spamming me and for me it’s what makes me keep blogging despite all other profitable projects I have currently (and the fucking intern as well).

Anyways just sharing, I know some of you can connect with me. Who knows? Maybe after quite some time, I would realize what direction this blog is going profit wise. And to consider, who doesn’t love passive income? :D

Haha, just as you stop monetising your blog, I start monetising mine :P Not earning much, but at least it’s enough to cover the domain and hosting – after all, my other projects make me plenty :D

i totally agree. when yous start to focus on making money on your blog by all means, you are losing the essence of blogging. monetary rewards would just follow when one just blog ang blog.

A more personal blog is nice, or one built with readership, plus you might be able to get away with sending a news letter to all your subscribers to show new products or advertise for your other sites, unless those are kept completely separate.
Plus, you could get too hung up in your blog and making money with it, and that might ruin it a bit for readers who just like to read helpful posts or something like that, they might not be interested and support your method.

Everything is not easy and will not come easy unless you work for it. I started my blog last year and I am just now starting to write post on it. I understand you would like to MMO but you have to think positive and ask yourself what will it take to keep my subscribers coming back. Blog for the love then the money will roll in later.

      DONT give up

You just have to stick to it. I see so many people wanting to make thousands ASAP and thats not the case. Once you know where your blog is heading, it will be easier to know what programs to target and also what works on your blog.

I am busy trying a few other programs to see what works for me. If it doesn’t then I dump it until I find the ones that work for me.

      Two things:
You have quite a lot of challenges as you described, but I would recommend:
      1. Goal setting : work on that
      2. Don’t discriminate to specific blogs, specific concepts
Yes, I love passive income too!
