Sell A Blog for $9500 and Get 9500 Spams!

Posted on March 25, 2009 by Melvin

Sly Blanco, the famous dude who sold his blog for $9500 has been having his new blog beaten, swallowed, shove in the ass, destroyed, bludgeoned, attacked by spambots. Look:

spambots

And John has been his loyal reader commentator. :-)

I am pretty much sure Sly’s really taking his time with the huge chunk of almost $10,000 that he got from his previous blog. So as the spams, taking their sweet time turning his blog to a splog.

I forgot to install aksimet one time but at least I didn’t let comments post instantly. He will have a lot of work on his hands cleaning that blog up.

Thats bad for him. I am also being targeted by Spammers. I have already got 700 spams in less than 3 months but askimet stops them. Askimet saves my day.

Anyway, I cannot see the connection between his sold out blog and the spam on his new blog.

That guy should definitely invest in some kind of spam protection, askimet or non. Askimet seems to give me a bunch of false negatives on my new blog though…which is kind of irritating.

The title is kind of misleading, creative, but it would have been interesting if the amount of money and the amount of spam had actually been related. Otherwise, it doesn’t really make any sense.

Without spam protection blogging is very risk. In my site,
Insurance also, I’m getting a lot of spam comments :(
The spam protection is done by the askimet plug in.

That’s what happens if one leaves his blog unattended for a few days (forget months as in Sly’s case). I was away for 12 days and I had so many spam comments off which I removed a few manually.

The worst thing was that, I was marked a spammer by a smart chap and all my comments on other blogs were getting caught by akismet (Probably it’s still not fixed and even this might go to the spam folder)

This just means you need to update whatever possible plugins you may get for your blog. It was an issue of protection and part negligence, in my opinion.

Doesn’t like moderating comments for sure. Even appears sort of careless in noticing the same. Even after installing the spam protection plug-in, you always have to then manually approve comments in order to be 100% sure that there are no spamming further in the comments.

I sold my website (not blog) for 9000 USD, and this was great success for me. But people did not got the users database, because I protected my readers from spams. This is very important to keep Confidence in the readers.
